How close to a powerline would you go with a carbon pole? I'm talking residential power here, not a pylon.

I've occasionally touched them,...

I'd never recommend it though! At residential voltage, the power can only arc across millimetres,... so once you're sure you won't actually touch it, you can get as close as you want.
