Well here's the story...
I do these 2 small bungalows down a country lane £9 & £8 (Trad). I only do them when I'm passing.
The second one is an old lady of 85 who is deaf!. Back in July she said a neighbour would like me to call. I went round the corner and did the neighbour's house (another elderly widow) £9. She seemed ok. Did it again, she sent the money, passing yesterday so did all 3 again. Went to get the money from her, she paid £9 and said, "Don't bother coming again, I've never paid more than £6, £9 is too much for me." I said ok took the money and left.
Poor old girl! I felt bad, I decided to go back, give her £3 back and tell her I don't want to just take money off old ladies. So that's what I did, gave her £3 back and told her I wouldn't call again. When I went back she told me that she was fed up, only had her pension, paid the Dentist that week, and her car just failed it's MOT, and I was the last straw. She didn't want to take the £3 back, said, "That is your price, but I will only pay £6." I insisted she have her £3 back because I felt bad, but I wouldn't do them for less.
That was the end of that.
My phone rang at 7. 30 this morning, she said she has decided she wants me to come every month or when I'm passing. She said, "It's so rare to meet someone who deals with people so respectfully, thank you for your kindness, people are so greedy and dishonest these days, I like the way you do business, I'll recommend you to anybody."
Of course I would have preferred it to be a contract worth £20K, but it was an unexpected little reward.

I have done the same for one of my customers in the past , and even done a £8 job for a cup of tea for a old lady once

I quoted a downstairs flat the other day, quoted her £9, i explained it was under my minimum charge,she wasnt sure so i said to her that if she got me another id do for them both for £8 and anymore after that then they would all be £7, got home a few hours later and there was ansewer phone message from her with 7 names and numbers of neighbours of hers that wanted them done too. ;D

I have a lot of respect for the OAP's, there the first ones to give you a tip at Christmas, there the first one's to give you a cup of tea, the trouble I find with them, is they can wrap me around there little fingers, I'm forever doing the inside of there kitchen windows or maybe there living room windows and I never charge them for it.
We are often the only people they see during the day/week, we'll all be there one day, so why not treat them as we would like to be treated in our old age.

You got a big reward on that one Pj I think, you get to feel good about yourself, and rightly so.
I do stuff sometimes & dont ask for anything extra if it takes no time at all, like Matt says it is sometimes what's its all about ;D

Yeah thats what i thought, until i re read his post.. anymore after that its £7 :D A nice deal all round.

I tend to look after my pensioners.
I don't know why but always have and often do little things free of charge or at a discounted price.
I will never make a fortune off of my oap's but i leave with a good feeling and they are always happy to see you.
Mind you having quite a few oap's plays havok on my bladder

Pensioners Hah
Biggest moaners, biggest rip off merchants and everyone one of them in the war
free money (pension) free teeth, free spectacles,free tv licence, free bus pass ,winter heating allowance, free free free
Living too long, using up all the health service resources,plastic hips,by-pass (even though they smoke) every good doctors appointment,
just put the bin out on the way past, can you just do the inside front window (free) so i can see out, my poor pension doesn't hardly stretch (while getting taxi to bingo where she has a "wee" sherry,a bit chocolate cake and a few fAgs )
dump them all

pensioners need to be treated bette rin this country like other countries do with their old.
have a few of them on my books and they like to chat with you and just seem like genuine people if ye ask me.

I love my pensioner custys for ALL the reasons youve just been bleating on about, its then I realise I do have a sense of humour :-*

The vulnerable ones do need to be treated better, definately, but Gordons has a point.
Two of my neighbors are retired (pensioners) and they're always away on holiday; they're definately not short of a bob-or-two; cruises here and there, and my next door neighbor has a £50K camper van-thing in which he spends at least five months of the year away on holiday; three months were spent in Croatia this year.
He's never here; and we get asked to cut his grass while they're away; which we did and all they brought us back was a little bottle of olive oil from the Balkans!
Tight gits.
And you'll probably find that the current pensioners today, the 'Baby Boomers' are more affluent than ever before; or after! We will in all probability have a worse time of it when we're pensioners (Dai and Ian-Giles aside; they're almost pensioners ;D)
I sometimes have a beer in my local British Legion with my neighbor, and his mates are all retired (just about) and they're not short of cash; I promise.
I treat all my pensioners in the same way as I treat anyone else (I treat them like grown-ups; and with respect). They're no different.

nice to see it's not all about money as with some posts on here
after all we only pass this way once if we can't do some good lets not do any harm no matter what our clients age or gender or our own circumstances good or bad

There is a big difference between the cash rich pensioners and the ones who are trying to get by on their state pension.
Round here there are both types. One of mine has just bought a big 08 reg BMW and it never goes further than Tesco's. More money than sense, his wife spends more in the hairdressers each week than most OAPS get to live on.
Pensioners usually are good reliable customers.
