Post by: d s windowcleaning on October 17, 2008, 10:38:54 pm
i cant work this out , mate of mine cleans a house monthly at £5 per clean , the husband as gone and paid £140 for a set of ladders so he can save money by doing them himself , with what hes paid for the ladders he could have paid my mate for over 2 years just cant work it out the blokes nearly 67 .

on wednesday i watched an 82 yr old bloke (verified by neighbour/client) cleaning the windows on his house
the design of house he was doing was the same one i slipped on two years ago
that slip was the first one that ended up cnverting me to wfp
he had a 3piece ladder
a bucket and cloth
and........moccasins ;D
he walked over the roof apex like i used to
glaring at me as i cleaned the house 2 doors down
my cust was laughing his tits off
"you should have been here at the weekend,he was cleaning the soffit on the gable end......OFF THE ROOF :o :o :o :o"
sad thing is i only charge a tenner for that size house on his estate
his is one of 4 houses that i dont do
made my guts turn over watching him

I think it is old guy "I can still do it myself" syndrome linked with "however well  I've done I'll still end up on the street corner selling matches if I'm not careful with the pennies syndrome"

My Dad was like this - he had a works pension, state pension and a big redundancy payment at age 62 - perfect timimg. Mum had a pension cuz she worked in M&S during the war or summat. Comfy see?

But although kind and generous, Dad would go round behind mum turning off taps to save hot water, switch off lights to save leccy and repair his car rather than buy a decent one.

I think it was going thru' the war on rationing that ingrained it into him ...

Hey ho! If he was alive now he'd be out with his accounts book checking his expenditure and loving it while slipping me £500 to tide me over if I fell on hard times.

I do miss the old codger, but what can you do? :(

Whoops :o  I'm 64 in December - does that mean I'm living on borrowed time? I still clean rows of terrace houses by leaping from window sill to window sill ::)
