I use my computer for my invoices, sales ledgers, and customer back up, so I was frantic today when I came in and thing wouldn't complete a boot up, so I got out the tool box!

I have managed to get everything going again, thank god.

ever heard of a external hard drive ??
Also maybe get a pc for work and one for play ;)
I have been there many times before, it is highly annoying, I cam home from work to find my house full of smoke only to find the motherboard had burnt and was on fire, should have come back a few hours later could have got the whole house redecorated ::)

the block on the floor is a set of three internal HDD. 2X 250GB and one 40GB so no need for a external for backup I just use my slave drives. Only advantage is you can easily conect the externals to other PC's but not a mojor for me. I have thought about buying a laptop for work but dont really think its a worth while expense when I can use my home PC.

so out of interest, what was wrong with it ? ? ?
it wouldnt work because it didnt have a case with blue LED's fans in ( i guess it is a blue LED fan in the front ? ? ? )
ive just 7 V'ed my fans, well i changed the 80 mm for 120 and then 7 volted them, while i was at it i ditched the noisy 80 mm fan on the CPU, just use a copper heat sink with a 120 mm
i cannot even hear the PC is on ;)

we have 7 computers in our house. All of them working on a daily basis!!! and we have never had one crash...yet. But I have everything backed up onto my external hard drives just incase. So if they did, i would have all my contract info etc saved!

I personally have never had one fail and fingers crossed I dont...Over the last 2 years I have had 74 emails about problems with PC and the hard drive failing. I suppose that goes to show that it does happen and people are up a creek without their data :-)

The thing was shutting back down again during boot up, I did it again and it happened at the same point so I knew it was a software issue. But the only was to get my data back was to boot it up on another HDD and transfer the data. I did have a backup of my business related files on my 40gb but it was a couple of days ago I last backed up so I prefered to just put the extra work in and save everything.
As for the blue leds, I had that new case lying gathering dust, and was going to spend the night on it anyway so I put some new toys into it in the process of fixing it.
I guess the lights dont really improve performace but the old case had one fan excluding the heatsinks fan. The new case has 2 80mm infront of the hdd bays and a huge 200mm over the top of the case, so it should improve the performance and life of the system. I am also going to get a 120mm for the glass door. So its now a 3.2 GHz P4, 2GB Ram, 540GB HDD, with a saphire GC.
To keep this on topic though, if you have allot of business info on your PC backup every day.
