Title: extracta excel mottor change

hi just wondering if anyone has ever put a new vacume mottor on before. mine went yesterday morning and i dont feel confident in changing it myself did you find it easy

If you can get the old one off, you can get a new one on ;)

It's a bit of a journey into the unknown if you've never done it before but as long as you remember to use the right sized spanner etc so you don't damage anything, and have a decent memory of where things go (write it down if you have to) then you should find it pretty straightforward.

Generally, most machines are made to be pretty easily serviced.

P.S. if the wires on the motor are black and grey, black is live and grey is neutral, american system ::)

Buy the motor from Extracta (as they are quite specialized) and ask John Kelly if he would be kind enough to show you how to do it?

Changing the vac motor in a Excel is not that dificult ,you might loose the skin off the odd knuckle as there isn't alot of room to work in though! If your not that confident your going to put all the wires back were they belong take a few pictures before you take the motor out as a referance.also the metal straps that secure the the vac to the fibre glass body tend to bend and loose there shape,make sure you fit these to vac before you put it back in,that is also the case fore the grey plastic pipe that fits to the flexi pipe with a jubilee clip if this isn't on the vac before you put it back in you will struggle,I once made that mistake myself.

sounds difficult i think i will just leave it to extracta..will a new mottor give it new lease of life

Hi Guys

I had to change so many motors in my Excel :( that I got quite good at it.

There is little room amd it's very frustrating but not technically difficult.

No Bill you will not notice any difference in performance with a new motor...at least I never have done!!
