Title: Stoddards Carpets International
Post by: Dave_Lee on February 22, 2005, 08:48:19 pm
Hi All,
I read today that Stoddards Carpets, the manufacturer of quality carpets ahs gone into liquidation and all jobs are lost as the liquidators have failed to find a buyer. I wonder are they victims of the laminate success story.
Dave.

Laminate flooring is well and truly out!!!
i read the other day (can't remember where)that hospitalization due to falls(slips) in the home has increased 12 fold since the popularization of laminate flooring. many public buildings are now using carpet because of health and safety(don't you just love em). Airborne contaminants(dust) is also proving a big problem for many homes without carpeting. so chin up guys the good times are coming back.

There are also more air transmitted virus infections since the popularity of laminate flooring. Carpet acts like a sponge/ filter where as laminate and other hard flooring has does not. Dust levels actually increase in houses with hard flooring as it is constantly in the air so it can be worse for allergy sufferers and people with respiratory conditions.

Just like red is the new black so to speak, what goes around comes around. When shops start selling it cheaper and cheaper over kill comes and that is when the reverse effect happens and a rush to carpeting.

My Missus is thinking about patterned wall papers and patterned carpets :o if I would have suggested it 12 months ago she would have taken my pillow and blanket out of the dog house and I would have had to sleep on the boards!
