just thought i would start a poll on ipa to see how many people actually use it and what your thoughts are dos it benifit you or not .
-
Wonder why ionics don't use it? They have all the resources to have tested it properly and scientifically yet none of the major players use it instead they spend thousands developing a hot system to work through the freezing weather. I have a gallon in my garage but won't be glugging any into my tank.

they can make money more money selling hot systems than they can trying to supply IPA, having said that although i believe IPA is usefull i do think hot water would be better than IPA.

May I just propose that in future, if you are not going to try it, you aren't going to post in any more IPA threads, because it's clear that you don't even want to try it. What have you got to lose?
You are wrong, or partially wrong in two things.
1 : You say it floats on top of the water, okay perhaps that is so in large quantities, but how the heck do I get bubbles at the brush head whenever I use IPA? If it would float on the top, it's not going to go through the tank elbow is it? But somehow it does, maybe it's the low ratio of IPA to water that makes that possible. 2nd point.
2 : You say it's impossible that the pipes do not freeze because you need to have a certain ratio of IPA/Water. Why is it then that users pipes do not freeze?
You say it's not going to work, but something is clearly flawed in your comments, since the result of adding IPA is so apparent.
If you really want to prove us wrong, throw a coke can full in your tank, drive to your job so it mixes, and see what happens. Your atleast going to see bubbles at the glass, you've got to wait a bit longer for the freezing weather.
Go on do it, or don't post any more on this matter.
-
I'll post whatever i like thank you very much, untill someone can convince me that a massive coke can of ipa in five hundred litres of water works in minus four i won't be wasting my money. It's no good coming out with these claims if they don't stand up to reasoning. I agree that it will lower the freezing point of water but not in those quantities.
As for the rest of the year my windows are clean and shiney so why bother to add it? Pure water works or haven't you noticed the gleaming windows it produces?
If you think it works then tell me EXACTLY how such a tiny amount can change the properties of water.

Ohhh get you ::)
I don't intend using it as I get on fine with just pure ;D

Until now I hadnt read any of the recent IPA threads. But today I was thinking to myself with it being so cold " i will need to check out ipa, to see if it works" but then i thought, well what % will raise the freezing temperature. so I thought I might have to google it or do a test with my freezer and different percentages.
Anyway I dont need to do any tests now, the facts on paper from FTPS link are you need 10% IPA to stop freezing in winter. Well thats a ridiculous amount of IPA. But Im also not silly enough to presume I know it all. Something else could be at play here. Something not quite understood by us as Window Cleaners, so I will be checking it out and if it freezes, then I wont be using it anymore, but I hold my opinion until then, despite the "facts". thank you goodnight!!!

I've just posted the same on the other thread about putting it in the freezer.... will be interesting to see the results posted

I have tested it Luke and regardless of what people say that havn`t even tried it say it does work,it DOES stop things freezing. Why on earth would anyone come on here saying it works when it simply dosen`t,i`ve proved it does work and that`s all that matters it keeps me working below freezing. And if ftp what ever he calls himself says he won`t try it i don`t beleive it,wait until it gets a bit colder he`ll soon be glugging some in the old tank lol. ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Putting it in the freezer won`t proove a lot Luke,we work in cold conditions but not freezer like conditions.
-
Luke, you seem a bright lad, please do your research and have a play about with the quantities talked about here. Search for yourself - the charts aren't mine. See what conclusions you make - I'm not perfect but i would like a reasonable answer to your findings. Cheers.

This is the reason Im going to try it, because you say it works along with quite a few others. while were at it, where did you buy yours from again?

Don't just chuck some in the tank though and tell me it didn't freeze on a particular day. Unless the temperature is measured and controlled it proves nothing. Your van water might be warmer than someone elses, you might be working on the sunny side of the street or using a faster flow different jets. Lots of reasons why yours didn't freeze but the next guys did. Just trailing your hose through the frost might cause it to freeze. On paper 0.05% is too small. So if you think it works then why?
-
my system froze 4 times last winter, I think Ill know if it works or not, Luke

I`ve used it on the coldest part of houses, and it makes no difference what flow your using when you turn off the water for only a couple of minutes the jets and Y peice freeze when in the shade. The point i`m trying to make is that when using iso nothing freezes up at all in the coldest conditions.

I had two occasions when water froze last year, but it only froze in the pole hose, putting the pole hose in a bucket of warm water was all that was needed. I have one of those little fan heaters that come on when the temp drops to freezing, it's on a long extension lead. the water doesn't get a chance to freeze before I get to the job, keeping the pole hose off the ground helps prevent freezing.
I may give that stuff a try this winter, just put some into the first two containers, it usually warms to above freezing by about 10 am.
