Title: ALLTEC ADVANCE
Post by: james roffey on September 30, 2008, 11:09:28 pm
Does anyone have experience of the new advance model which i am considering
is this the best porty? how does it compare to others, Ninja in particular which would be a much nearer purchase and future service in Kent. the guy from alltec was pushing the Truckmount and van they had on show £30,000 thought i should start off with that!  i thought he was joking, but he said if he was starting now he would get one!! as serious as i am to make a go of this that kind of purchase would severely hit my marketing budget, so i would have a beautiful van and truckmount but no customers.
i want to be able to get the best results possible from a portable, also what are your thoughts on agitation do i need a machine to do this before using a wand a rotovac perhaps or something else.

Cheers

   cheers

James

As a new starter buying new is not such a good idea, look on the for sale items on here plus check ebay out. The new advance is a great machine but is not worth spending that sort of money for a new starter.

Look at lots of machines and also people on here will have their favourite and knock other machines without really knowing anything about them.

Twin Vac is a must as is a heater but you can pick up lots of secound hand machines at the moment, start with a good secound hand machine and use the rest of the money you have on marketing and training courses, these are much more important. Without these you wont have any Jobs to use your nice new Advance on if you go that way. For every sucess that Alltec have told you abot their will be 100 that have failed to be carful with the sales pitch they made to you at the Open Day, they make you feel that anyone that does their marketing course will make it but reality is not so wonderful.

The machine is good by the way.

Cheers

Neil

Hi james

Niel made a good post there to help you.

Also i would stress what niel said re alltec,i would maybe keep your options open rather than go straight down there recomondations and keep your options open.

If you look at the posts on here about e bay this will let you know that there are many machines being bought and sold and i always ask myself for what reasons ???

Good luck with your new set up anyway. cheers clinton

Hi James,
How about one of these on ebay brand new.
320306517349
2 x 3 stage vacs, adjustable 500 psi pump and heater.
The last 2 sold have gone for £960.00.
Give him a ring his phone number is listed on the ad, he is based in essex so you could collect.
He might do you 1 without going through ebay for a decent price to avoid ebay fees.

go for the truckmount, 18 grand on ebay, (see truckmount on ebay thread)knock him down after it doesn't sell. truckmounts are amazing machines, fast powerful and easy to work.
if you can't make it work, at least you went for it and as long as you don't over pay for it you can sell it and cut your losses. he who dares.
thats just my opinion. and what i'd do, well!! what i did and so far i aint regretting it.

I would consider another business to set up, the reason that there is so many second hand machines available at the moment is because people are going under.
However if you do want to start up Carpet cleaning, spend about a £1000 on a machine and do it part time until you get a customer base i would say 2/3 years.
you could spend 10 grand on a TM if it works that all good, if it doesnt and you decide to sell it in 6 months time i think you would find it hard to find a buyer.
I have been running years and always been busy, this week the phone has died and i haven't had 1 enquiry since Saturday, the 1st time i have gone 4 days without a single call.
I know 2 more local cleaners in similar situations.
I think we are all in for a shock and some will go under through no fault of there own.
Dont want to seem too negative its just my honest opinion.

Thanks for all your advice, positive and negative i have other income so it would not be a matter of jumping in with both feet,.i have no intention of giving up guaranteed income until at least i am earning a reasonable amount from cc, but carpet cleaning is what i am aiming for i understand that to have to rely on income via carpet cleaning would be foolish at the present time, until i am established at least.
I did not want to look like a "cowboy" running a 2nd hand cleaner from the back of my vectra i thought that could harm my long term prospects of being a reputable carpet cleaner, i have no idea of what would be a good 2nd hand cleaner or how to use it, how difficult is it.
Buying new provides training of equipment and from what you all seem to be telling me the cost of buying new is a fraction of the cost of marketing.

That 'Essex' ad might be Woodbridge, the phone number looks familiar, also what happens if the machine goes wrong?

How and where would you get it fixed, there probably isnt a warranty with it.

Dont forget 'You gets what you pays for'. (Usually).

It will have the same pump and vac motors as any other machine they are nearlly all the same workings in a different box, cant see why you would have any problems with it.
