business logo
tel no
mob no
web address
your name
do you have a slogan - "we go the extra mile for you" "you tried the rest, now hire the best"
keep it all clean and simple

thanks joe

Sorry Joe,
I would go the total opposite.
Have the largest possible business card and use it as a mini salesletter.
Don't expect a potential client to have a clue about machinery. They are only interested in what it will do FOR THEM (ie RESULTS).
Don't miss an opportunity to sell yourself.

I prefer normal size of card but make it differ ........... mine is portrait not landscape and also printed both sides ;)
-
Thanks guys.Sometimes you can think about something for too long and you end up in a muddle.
-
Just go with your first idea then adapt it later from feedback ;)

what are you going to use your business card for?
most people use business cards because they don't have what is actually needed,
you should carry (or have in the van) a variety of small marketing items
so when someone says......
"give me a business card, I'll stick it up on the notice board at work"
or
"give me a business card, My sister wants her suite cleaning"
or
"give me a business card so I can call you in a year to have them cleaned again"
is a business card the best thing to give them? people ask for a business card because they don't know to ask for anything else.
the only time to give a business card is when they say "whats your address? I'll send you a cheque"
So for A business card I'll agree with Joe Hatton, but for everything else you need what Gary22 is suggesting
-
Just to add my agreement with whats been said.
When I approach the clients door to do a pre arranged job I have a business card in hand.
However, I always have a wad of my A5 double sided leaflets in the van. If anyone makes an enquiry whilst at a job, they get the leaflet and a business card.
-
my advice. same as joe, keep it simple.
but thickness and quality of the card is what makes people keep it, how many flimsy business cards have you got in your wallet?. (you know the ones, freebies from vista print) waste of time.
as for everybody saying have this, have that have the other, i agree.
but seeing as your only asking about busy cards, i'll stick with the programme.

Anyone try folded cards? (4 sides to write on)
-
Have the same thing as magnets for leaving in offices/homes etc ::)
I do keep business cards and my Rolodex will not hold flyers or postcards ???
-
What Chris and Mike O say is what I was trying to explain earlier.
If you are going to give out a card, you might as well give something different that aids your selling process.
How many times have you come home from say, an exhibition, with a fistful of business cards? Can you remember who is who and who was selling what? An "extended" card can explain so much more.

I have had to write notes on the back of cards as reminders :o
-
if someone is good at what they do, you remember who they are and then you know who's business card it is, a business card is a contact reference and nothing else, you personally give out your business cards so if you sell yourself they'll keep the business card.
if your in a rush and don't have time to chat, give em a flyer and a business card. to me, to much on a business card can sometimes look unprofessional. it should never look like a sales pitch.
but thats just my opinion on here and not necessarily the right one.
keep it simple, with a quality card.
i'd be embarrassed if i pulled out a four fold business card, all singing all dancing, flashing lights, discount voucher, nothing to pay for 12 months, 3 years interest free credit, and gave it to one of my clients, they'd say "nice card, but wheres the telephone number" i'd say "its on there somewhere love, you'll find it eventually, probably somewhere near the small print"

Had mine done by cardsmadeeasy dotcom
Very good quality and easy to design ;D
-
same here 'cards made easy.com' full colour, folded cards, so I have four sides to tell potentional customers how good I am ;D
-
Here's what I do.
I sometimes give out a card, but usually I get a conversation going and find out about them. I then send them something like an enveloped postcard with a little note on it. It's phrased more towards the chat than flogging services.
Not straightforward I know but found worthwhile.

Never offer a card but have one ready for when you are asked ........................... recycled paper helps in the 'eco' trail as well ;)
-
Printed off 10k of A4 leaflets last night whilst watching Bruce Parry's Amazon. :-[
-
I have just my name, trading name ,tell numbers and what services i offer.
Must say am with joe on this one :)

I don't agree with Derek Wests comment - Vistaprint Freebies a waste of time - they are if you make them look rubbish! I've previously been a manager in a printers for 8 years and I think Vistaprint are great value for money. I've had postcards printed with full colour picture on the front with information on and gloss coated with printing on the reverse which cost around £3.50 for 100 I hand these out to people asking about our service as they look loads better than a business card and give further information.
If you want to pay hundreds of pounds at printers then go ahead but if you want good value marketing postcards then go to www.vistaprint.co.uk
-
suffolkclean,
correct me if i'm wrong but sinse when has £3.50 for 100 been a freebie?
please read the post carefully before disagreeing with someone. i was on about the free business cards that vista offer, i wasn't saying vista were rubish.

Oh sooooooooo sorry derek, cor bit touchy - they are actually free but you pay £3.50 for the postage - should of explained it better
-
They say less is more had a business card the other day, his name on one side phone number on the other side, but I can remember what he does isn't that what its about.

Seems like lots have been caught in this scam - firtunately I have not even thou I have bought off Vistaprint in the past.
Upon hearing of this about a month ago I used a link to submit a request to Vistaprint to stop the emails coming to me (used to get 2 a day) promoting their products.
I was requested to explain the reason why I wanted to stop their emails, simply said I had heared of bad press.
Not received anything since.

When you complete your order with vista it opens up a page for you to complete a short survey and receive £10 into your vista account. The survey is only about 3 questions long so i would imagine most people would complete it. The thing is though, if you read the page fully, when you click the yes button you are also signing up to a reward scheme with a 30 day free trial after that you have to pay a monthly fee unless you cancel it.
So basically when you order from them simply order what you want and don't do anything else!

I got my cards from vista print and find them great value for money. They have good templates as well.
Would stay away from the free ones though as they do look cheap and nasty.
Although my wife does not like it, put your address on it as people like to know where you are from.
