Title: Varistream won't stop?
Post by: michael robinson on September 23, 2008, 04:40:18 pm
i have had my varistream for about 7 months and at present once i switch it on it doesn't stop. there is pressure constantly on the reels and as such is causing a leak where the tube from the pump goes into the reel. it use to cut out if i stoped working, but now seems to be allways on. anybody know what i can do. cheers

Sounds like air getting into the pump.

Check all the connections and make sure the pump is always lower than the top of the water line in the tank.

Is it a digital or one with a numpty.  If it's one with a numpty you should be able to open it up and adjust the blue dial so that it will cut the pump out.  The digital can be adjusted by pressing the up and down buttons together and then changing the flashing number displayed.  You need to get it sorted though as it will hammer the pump.

First of all i would take off the pump inlets and blow through the pump,if that dosen`t solve it you need to set the varistream to your plumbing. You`ll be lucky if you can just plug it in and away you go,it has to be setup for your system.Stick with it once you have it set ideal for you it beats pole valves hands down, the pump will last longer with a varistream because most of the time the pumps only ticking over.

that leak is what is causing it to continue running - stop the leak, reset the varistream and that should be it fixed.

does anyone know what  the settings    ie 1  to 9 and a to f     on the digital varistream are for and what the optimum setting is

What setup do you have? Hosereel length, micro or mini bore hose? What pump?

The numbers are the flow setting, the letters are the pressure setting.

I'm having problems with the digital, it pressurises without me changing anything, I burst a pipe today.
I turn it on, select the flow and the pressure to suit, everything fine, turn it off and next time I turn it on it suits itself as to what pressure it pushes out.

When it's flashing and, you select the letter you want for pressure, how can you get back to the flow control without turning it off?
Does yours remember the setting for the previous day when you switch it on in the morning?
I also notice that the pump turns slowly even with the flow set at zero, is this normal?
Seriously thinking of putting the old one back on.

check for leaks, also have you made any changes to system since you set up originally, i changed pole hose from 4mm algarde to 6mm standard hose, forgot to reset varistream , it would take ages to switch of , re set and now its fine again

I don't think that the numbers indicate a particular pressure or flow rate. I think they are only a guide. (I may well be wrong, however.)

I wouldn't have thought that anyone could say what the optimum setting is as it would vary with the hose diameter, length of hose, type and number of jets etc.

Experiment with the settings until you find the one that suits you and your way of working best. And that's your optimum.

Yes.
