im looking to take out insurance to cover me against sickness or if i have an accident and im unable to work.does any1 have any recommendations please.

If you are wfp then I wouldnt bother with accident cover cos you aint gonna fall off the floor, with regards to sickness cover, most companies who I tried with said you cant have the sickness without the accident cover.Just put the money you would be willing to pay a company to oneside and if you are ill its there to be used, plus you wont have to wait weeks/months for your claim to be paid out.

I might not fall of the floor, but I could break my ankle tripping over my hose, similarly I could fall off my motorbike and break my collarbone very easily.

I pay for it because accidents happen, I took this out about 9 years ago now, 2 years ago I had a head on car crash that near done me in, paying the small sum monthly as a god send, will can all think "it will not happen to me" I used to think the sam lucky I was clever enough to cover all bases, so wfp, trad what ever get insured, if you live in a bedsit only you and income does not matter and you have no kids at all then I would say dont bother.

p.s I was off work three months, I did not ask for accident someone hit me head on 6 days before Christmas ( I do not work for any insurance compnay by the way, just what can and has happened)

Definitely go with Cirencester friendly. I have accident and sickness cover. The sickness kicks in from Day 1 (although you have to be ill for 3 days), get a doctors note and you should get a pay out. The accident will pay out as long as you need. I pay £20 per month well worth it for peace of mind. Let me know if you want any details. Good luck DMH :)

Yes please let us have details. What does £20 a month entitle you to?

I'm with Combined as well, covers you for accidents at work or leisure. Also do a sickness cover.

not sure if they are going to be any good....hopefully wont need to find out!!
but insuredrisks.co.uk I use them for PL and they now offer accident and van insurance, I added the accident to my policy.

I used to be with CICA, but realised that the cover mainly depended on a hospital stay. The most common accident a window cleaner can have (ladders at the time) is to have a fall and break an arm or a leg. In this case the whole CICA policy is worth nothing as you would be in and out in a day, but could be off work for up to 6 months depending on seriousness of the break.
I have now got an income replacement policy which covers illness or accident and is not dependent on a hospital stay and will pay out for a year. I also have a mortgage replacement policy which is more of the same. A point to note is that the Government will not allow you to take out insurance that will pay more than about 50% of your taxable income, which effectively renders most policies limited in their benefit. I also have a long term policy that will only kick in after a year off work, but that will pay out for the rest of my life.

Ive never had to claim from cirencester so i cant really comment. What was there reason for not paying out? Surely they must have said something to back up not paying out?

Interesting subject and one I have been thinking about.
I used to replace wooden Fascias, soffits, gutters and cladding with UPVC products.
I did this for a total of 14 years (finished 1999) and did the work off of ladders for 99.9% of the time.
I did not havepersonal injury insurance only public indemnity insurance in case I damaged the customers property.
The only time I used scaffolding is when the customer was having other work done and scaffolding was already up, those were luxury jobs compatively speaking.
In that time I did have 3 friends in the same business that fell and broke bones.
Obviously ladders on grass will not slip, concrete and patio slabs (especially if gone green) needed caution but this was putting the ladder right up to soffit level so that we could lean back to push the tiles up and crow bar the Fascias off.
With window cleaning I put the ladder underneath the window sill so am many feet lower than I used to be and do not feel like the ladder will slip.
I do have some Stabilad feet if it is a slippery surface but hardly feel the need to use them.
The most awkward surface is a sloping surface like a driveway.

Payment Shield General Insurance - Mortgage Payment Protection Insurance costs about £2.50 per £100 of monthly benefit. 0870 759 4000
Goodfellows Income protection insurance through Adminicle. £3.50 per £100 of monthly benefit. 01285 886600
The above policy are from Day 1 and last for a maximum of 1 year (12 monthly payouts) I then have another policy through LloydsTSB which is a long term income protection plan which kicks in after 12 months and lasts until you are 65. This is a lot cheaper than the above two policies as the chance of needing it are much less.

i have a policy, afterall if you cannot work for a few weeks, you will need help to pay the bills
most area's have a " Friendly Society " , i belive they were set up to help the working man
mine is 40 something a month, it just went up, it pays me just over 200 quid a week, i know its not much, but it will pay my bills
