Title: Yes or No?
Post by: Kev Loomes on September 11, 2008, 08:58:04 pm
Got me IICRC stuff through the other day explaining that cos its ben a while I/we need to take another course to stay valid :-\

What with our certified firm (£100.00 a year) and 2 x IICRC certs (approx £80.00) and the cost of another course - I am struggling to justify the cost.

Is it beneficial to being forced to being schooled and a cert at the end of it (also with a faint future possibility of the IICRC being involved with manufacturers/retailers etc to benefit us further), or is it a complete waste of time?

There was 2 main reasons for initially joining and one of them was from a business point of view - i.e. to gain something out of it financially. In the years that we have been IICRC we have had exacty £0 pence return. WILL IT EVER CHANGE?

I think your fourth paragraph answers your third paragraph.

Although I think their courses are good, I have only ever done their fire restoration & water restoration courses.   Both have brought me returns although not through them

Kev
i`v just gone through the same with the BDMA.
I`v been paying £350 per year and nothing back and this year they have bought
out somthing else that you have to do more training, 20 hrs per year which you have to pay for  :-[
you also have to pay£15 to say you will do the extra training :o
I am not joining this year, or from now on.

I think its a joke to demand you take duplicate training just to join every few years.

I keep it simple and stick to the NCCA.

NO,

Wots the point?  You get nothin in return that will beefit you.  In my humble opinion that goes for the IICRC & the NCCA.  Just a way of them robbing you.

Richie.

with respect its about investment in yourself. what you get back will benefit you every day you clean. plus when you go on a course you get the added benefit of networking with other carpet cleaners. I know that you get that here but its different face to face.

Lets face it the logo means nothing to your customers. but as a professional we all should keep our knowledge up to date. its like reading a book, when you read at times you miss parts because your are trying to do to thing at once, read and think. by rereading that book or sitting a course in this case you pick up on those things that you missed first time round.

if you are feeling its not worth the money. do what i do and that's take away three things that i can turn into a return on that investment. for example i did the NCCA spotting course and one of my three was pet stains. i went about marketing this area and got my money back. its the use of this knowledge that benefits us. it no good just keeping it in our heads.

another way i use this is with products. just look at any line and you will see products that you dont use on a day to day basis. lets take the pet urine example. alltec do the water claw. by using this in your marketing and explaining the benefit of not having to pull up the carpet etc, and that this saves money for your customers, gives you a new market.
