I see rugdoctor being advertise a lot on TV at the moment...have any of your customers hired one?
-
Been to customers in the past who have hired one to re-clean thier problems
-
Was looking at the Rug Doctor stand in my local Somerfield today, £19.99 for 1 days machine hire then the carpet cleaning chem (small bottle) £6.99, anti foam no price on that but guessing another £5.00 then if you take into account the cost of fetching the unit and dropping it off again, after wetting your still dirty carpets the saving on the average priced professional CC isn't that great.
At 27psi and no heat I imagine they must be quite useless at cleaning anything thats even slightly dirty.

think we should all chip in and counter the rug doctor advert, there a joke, the amount of carpets ive cleaned after custys have tried the rug is unbelievable. there good at keeping carpets clean but not getting them clean.
in my opinion the rug doctor sucks, or should i say doesn't suck. oh you know what i mean.
derek

we should encourage custy to use rug doctor first, after all when they mess up we get more work
-
A lot of People are scared to death of cleaning there own carpets through fear of damage, shrinkage. I agree that people wanting to try and save a few quid will hire one, or go and buy a Vax or Bissell but they will only use them once.
I think that rug doctors give us professional carpet cleaners more credit once someone has tried one and failed.

The problem is that once they have done it themselves - are they even going to realise that 'professionals' use better machinary etc? If that contact with the 'carpet cleaning' machine is all they know, its safe to say that they may deem that we all use this type of machinary and then dont call anyone because they've already done the best they can!
Or, if they do call someone in and want to go cheap (cos they dont undersatnd anything apart from price, pluse being a bit tight due to hiring the offending machine in the first place), and then matey turns up with a......Rug Doctor. I think that could potentially permanently put in her mind what our industry is like and never call anyone again - which is where some of the horror stories old/new wives tales stem from.
Just a thought.

Hi new to the forum . just checking out some of the post . I live in the us . what I tell my clients is go out and buy a drill from toys r us for your kid and then go by a makita drill for your self . Thats the difference between a rug doctor and a commercial machine .

I normally end the call asap.
horse, flog, dead.

GUys, this is where the NCCA should step in and try and counter this sort of misleading advertising, Rug Doctor, Vannish and the dreaded 1001 are all dangerous to Carpets and the NCCA do nothing about this.
This should be the most important thing they do, it will help CC's and stop customers from screwing their carpets up,
It would be the best 50 grand the NCCA could ever spend, I am sure that members would pay more in membership if this sort of campaign was available and more people would join.

well said neil ;)

i agree, the customer thinks these are the types of machine we use, done a job the other week, customer asked me if i use that new type of machine, the rug doctor?

What they also don't realise or even acknowledge when you explain, is that the machinery is only one third of the equation.
There's also the products and the person doing it. Huge variations all round, even within the "professional" service.
