hi
i have been asked to quote for a school clean. its very big and if i get it it will be great.
what need to know, is there a set formula for pricing schools?
i plan to charge £1 per window / unit out side and £1.50 insides. don't want to be too cheap though, any advice welcome
cheers

thing is there will put a tender out to a fair few people
how much do you want the job? sometimes its ok to work them out on a day rate, i.e. £250 a day, 2 days work £500
i put a price in for a school they said i got it, then someone came in at half my price :O
made me look like i was ripping them off, and i wasnt!

How often is it? Usually these jobs are once or twice a year. I can't be bothered with them because they take forever to prepare the quote, method statement, risk assessment etc, then even if you get them you have to quote so low it's hardly worth it, then you wait up to six months for the money etc, etc.
I'd rather spend the time building a good regular round of monthly/bi-monthly domestics.
I know lots of window cleaners who boast about their great big jobs, but I know I'm turning over much more than them with a tiny proportion of the stress and hassle

Don't forget to factor in the time for removing posters, paint, blue tac, selotape etc from the windows and all the stuff from the sills to actually reach the windows.
You would be better off on day rate + a bit, than £ per window.
saying that, I have just completed one, on my own 6 days, £3k so they can be worth it if you get it right and you don't mind hard graft, cos generally thats what they are. usually filthy aswell.

ive just done a small one, an one thing to add is you will spend alot of time move in furniture about tables chairs etc, so this needs to be added to your time cleaning i would go with the daily rate. it took me a whole day to do the small one i charged 345.00 for the day

I agree with what ian said i also think its better building your domestic round.
I done a couple of schools in the school holidays and one has not been clean for 6 years the other was cleaned last year.
Both said they would remove everything from the windows.
Got there both jobs blue tack, selotape and pictures still on the windows.
They were please when i finished as they did look great but it was hard work for the price.
If i get asked to quote again i will up the price but then i probably would not get it.
Im going to forget about getting more commercial as i can earn more on domestics and don't have the hassle of risk assesments, methods statements and working some evenings which i have been doing on offices.
Also commercial drop you just like that no explaination and no loyalty and some take forever to pay you.
Im sticking with domestics in the future.
