At last there is an advert on Prime Time TV encouraging people to clean their Carpets.
Many Cleaners feel that the NCCA should do it.
I think it was one of the orgional ideas of Truckmounters to form a Buying Group to pay for national Promotion
No Doubt others are thinking of it and are trying to put a scheme together.
well its been done
Rug Doctor
You might say its DIY but even with the credit crunch some people do not want to clean own Carpets but the seed to have carpet cleaned is planted in their mind.
So it is up to us to fill the gap

The Rug Doctor advertising people do a great job.
The only way I can think of to counter it is something along the " True cost of using a Rug Doctor" and the low performance.
They are about 15 quid a day to rent, shampoo £7.00 a bottle, another fiver if you want the spot remover, cost on time and fuel picking one up ( and giving all your bank details and proof of address ), time spent cleaning, drying times etc, time and fuel taking it back on time!.
I would think these things pay for themselves in less than a month and another couple of hundred mark up on the chemicals.
It is viable to buy a few of these and create a business from the price shoppers we all moan about, but is it worth the hassle for what could be £100.00 a week!

Gary I hire out a numatic cdt902 which has a 24oow motor and is quite robust.I bought it as an add on but sometimes it has got me professional jobs as well which i then do with my powerflite machine. Some people will never pay the assumed prices a professional might charge but i try and get their money anyway.Five months ago a hotel asked to hire a machine from me for a week.My girlfriend demonstrated the machine to them and asked if they would like a quote for a professional job that turned into an on going arrangement and they never did hire a machine. My point is that what ever gets you face to face with potential clients is worth looking into.Regards Alan (swindon)

I used to hire out my Rug Doctor but had reliability problems
If i could source their pump etc I would do it again
But there is a lot o wrong 2 pumps Vibrating brush and vac
parts exopensive from Rug Doctor
i JUST THINK ADVERT HELPS TO GET PEOPLE ESPECIALLY THE ELDERLEY THINKING ABOUT CARPET CLEANING and the elderley do not do it themselves

Rugdoctor wouldnt even contemplate letting you do this because the red machines are for hire only and you can not buy them, you have to be a registered hirer and most diy places like b&q have them. The blue ones are for the trade which are more powerful or any other customer who wants to buy one. At £500 a pop i doubt your normal custy would even think about it.
If you ever see a red rug doctor on ebay it is stolen.
Just a bit of useless info for you.

Guys the numatic ctd900-2 is only £520 inv vat and delivery and is a sturdy piece of kit that doesnt have the rugdoctor issues so i think its worth a look if you are thinking of giving machine hire a spin.Regards Alan(swindon)

If you ever see a red rug doctor on ebay it is stolen.
So what's the first thing I do? Yep... ;D
Couldn't find any red rug doctors, but..
item no. 120300674732 is being sold as a "Rug Doctor". I know it isn't but it is red :)
The item description cracks me up!
SPRAYS CARPET FIRST, THEN SCRUBS WITH BRUSH, THEN HOOVERS UP.
BRINGS CARPETS UP A TREET.
Cracking photography skills too!
It's being sold by a guy in Sheffield... Shaun is there something you're not telling us? ;D

Nice find Jim.
The photos must have been taken a few years ago as the sun is out.
"Brings the carpets up a treet", wonder if that means they look like they have been covered in chocolate and peanuts ;D

what rug doctor do it much more of selling a product to solve a problem. (that may or may not be now) its not marketing to a market that has a need. i lay money on it that they only make money on the backend of the sale selling detergent.
they where selling a machine on a shopping station and the detergent total value was more than the machine. great angle get the machine free approach.

Jim,
I'd have got away with it if it wasn't for you pesky kids!

Lemme at him uncle scoob!

I remember when the original Vax appeared, sold in thousands, but ended up in cupboards. Same thing currently happening to Hoover and Bissell machines.
There will always be a % who will hire, but they won't have the effect that laminate has had on the market.

No doubt there is a huge mark up on those little bottles of shampoo, and they are marketing to a need, a need for clean carpets.
Was the machine you saw on a shopping channel one of the £500 jobbies they hire out in B&Q, if so how much shampoo etc did you have to buy to get the free machine.
I will lay many on the fact they make on the carpet cleaner hire as well, they even supply the invoice books.
My thinking is it is a 500 quid machine that rents out for £15.00 a day, B&Q probably hire these from Rug Doctor anyway on a maintenance package at a pretty good discount rate on the volume of the sale. Rug Doctor then supply the marketing stand and of course make as much profit on the chemicals. I think they are 2l bottles, just enough to do a house, they are £7.00, B&Q obviously get a cut of that too.
Who ever came up with the idea to stick a few Rug Doctors at the end of these DIY Sheds was a genious.

I could think of other names for them ;D

The Bissell solution is now "Clean & Protect" all in one.
