Bolting a tank to the chassis is what a lot do on here... but will it weaken or damage it.
?
cheers.
-
ionics do it... ;D
-
you put a tube inside the hole to stop the chasis from crushing i imagine.
-
Andmake sure you use large spreader plates.....
-
Whatever it does strengthwise you'll need to tell your insurance company, modification an' all that.
Matt
-
oh brother .. good point.. just insured it too, ???
does it make a lot of difference to premiums?
-
Shouldnt do, mine was just a formality regarding carrying liquids.
-
Maybe if done properly it could be ok, i.e a suitable method, some mechanics will advise against it ;)
-
Just talk to Andrew ::)
-
too dear lol

Provided you do the Job correctly it will not damage the chassis and as I have mentioned before on how to install one, top hole in your van is bigger than the bottom hole, the bottom hole in the chassis is the same size as the bolt your using and the top hole is the size of a small steel tube (available from any fabricator) so long as you bolt fits inside it, drop the tube into the top hole and put your bolt through it, this stops you deforming the chassis.
Put your star washer on followed by the nut, (you can add a small spreader plate if you wish) tighten only the bolt and not the nut, this will pull the star washer into the chassis and create little dimples to stop the nut coming undone.
Use only high tensile steel nuts and bolts, there cheap enough.
If you fit using the above instructions you'll have no problems, don't forget thousands of cars & vans are fitted with tow bars and all fitted to the chassis with no problems.

too dear lol
Now I know you are a total loser ::)
not at all, it proves you do not have a clue .. this forum is brilliant... but you need to open your mind, views.. and shop around.... ever heard of friends who are in the trade?

Small Man Syndrome
This sort of child-like behavior is usually found in small-statured people who feel they need to make up for their physical inadequacy somehow.

merson (sjm)/simon123 is nothing but 'small time' in everything including business and talks the most rubbish out of everyone here!

;D Yeah ok, I'm skint. ;)
Wouldn't want that car anyway. Worth less than my van.
Stop acting all big and clever, no-one's impressed.
I was only joking in the first place anyway.
Never mind...
-
children - calm down.
-
but technically that car is worth more, isnt you van leased ;D
-
Roger,
I never said anything about the car that idiot simon did. But as dave said you dont even own your van and the fact that I own a van (also a Merc and part of my fleet ;D) makes me a few stages infront of you mate.
