we are thinking of putting another van on the road and we would be interested in thoughts on viability of using just di filters, we use r/o at the moment. the r/o is good but the drawback is that it takes so long to fill the tank that the van is permenantly attached to the tap when we are not working, also you can only clean until the tank is empty, on the other hand we have only had to replace the pre filters once in about 3 years whereas i believe that you need to replenish resin frequently. i know that a lot of the guys use the di method and maybe have used r/o too so they maybe able to suggest which is best or are they both good ways of doing the same thing. also assuming you can connect up to a water supply to fill the tank in your van on a regular basis whilst working, am i right in thinking you could easily work with maybe a 200-250ltr tank which in turn would mean a much smaller van than is needed for a 650 ltr tank

it depends on your tap water TDS.
if you got about 80 you could get away with it but you will get through loads of resin.
given that you will have no waste water and no downtime for your van as you could hook up to custys tap.

OR...... Just put a 1000L storage tank in your garage and fill that while you out working and fill up when you get back. DI only is more expensive but you waste less water and get instant 000tds water. I'm sure someone on here posted the equation for calculating the mout of water a unit would make before needing replaceing......

The first thing would be to determine your own tap tds & that of the areas you work in, only then can you decide either way.

like mr h said have your filtration system in a shed garage or if your posh a unit, then you can use as many vans as you wish from one system keeping costs down. we use this method, one system and five vans
