I know the legal requirements regarding ages of kids in the front seats of cars and the requirements for booster seats in the rear of a car but does anyone know the laws regarding taking young kids in a van?
-
i take both of mine in the front, one with child seat and other with booster seat.
im sure you are allowed to do this
besides, aint got much other choice, i think you are ok as long as you have the booster seats up until they are like 12

That was my main concern was do I use the booster seats or not? we have been using them so far but just wasn't sure how I stood legally.
-
Its the same law as cars.

Renault Master
I got pulled over the other day by a police motorbike (Traffic Cop) because one of my break lights was inop. I had the kids in the front no booster seats, I thought i was going to get done because the cop wanted to see in the front of the van.
He opened the door and had a bit joke on with the kids and never said a word why i didnt have booster seats, then he sent me on my way advising i get the break light fixed asap.
Kids Ages: 10 & 8
Now there can only be 4 explanations why i didnt get done:
1. He was a very nice cop and decided not to say anything!!
2. There are no law requirements for booster seats in a works van!!
3. He wasnt thinking straight that day!
4. He forgot to give me a fixed penalty!

thats got to be a first, but for safety if they need a booster seat in a car, then they should also have one in a van, if it is legal req or not, it is there safety that is the most important thing is it not.

Yes i completley agree with you there safety should come first but, the centre seatbelt in a master is very low and it fits perfectly over my 8 year olds shoulder, if i fitted a booster seat the top of the seatbelt would be below his shoulder. Booster seats were designed to make the seabelt fit perfectly over the shoulder to stop serious injury in a crash.
My 10 year old is about a foot taller than the average so the main passanger seatbelt fits him perfectly too.
I would say there seems to be a grey area in the law about size and age for booster seats.
Thats why i think the cop didnt do me.
