Post by: 007 or what on August 22, 2008, 09:20:26 am
i've priced a job up at £162.50 a month but they have decided they want it done on a 3 month cycle.

20-30% more i'd say. just for being cheeky as they probably knew they only wanted every 3 months when they asked you to quote. OLDEST TRICK IN THE BOOK.

I would base it on the extra time it would take to do every 3mths to bring them up to the monthly clean standard, this could be 1 or 2 hours extra. Put this to them with the extra hourly charges and see how it goes, it also depends on how much you need the work.

i would probably leave it as it is , unless you feel its underpriced !

You need to look at the facts, how keen are you to do the job now that you will be earning £1300,00 (162.50 @ 3 mths) less for the job per year then when you first priced it  ???. Myself i would not do it for the same monthly price that you quoted for a 3 monthly clean. If they asked for a monthly price that is what you gave them not a price for a quaterly clean.

The next thing they will do is say bye bye after the first clean and get another cleaner in 12 months time!

Been their, fell for it , never again. I put a price in with a little room for a discount, if they say no i move on.

O yeah and then they pay you 60 days later.

I would add 25% more.

I would keep it exactly the same. The price for a job doesn't really justify changing just because the customer doesn't want it so often.

A jobs a job in my opinion.

i had this a while ago and i was pretty miffed, but then at the end of the day, how much longer does it really take from 1 month to 3 months?

hardly any time in my opinion. especially with wfp

add an extra 1 hour rate. it won't take as long as a first clean.

in future when you quote give a graduated price.Very rarely do commercial jobs give you an indication of how often they want the job doing until you give them a price,so start with a price for monthly and then tell them for each extra month it will go up by x amount .ie 200 monthly and say 20 more each month extra.so if 2 monthly 220 3 monthly 240 and so on .It is quite awkward once you have given a price to then change it when they tell you how often they want it doing ,so by building it into the quote it gets over this problem.

Just curious as i don't have any commercial work yet (not sure if i want to or not though). Do you give the price there and then or do you go home and make it look official on company letterhead etc?

In all honesty that statement is true enough.

Its just I guess no-one likes to think theyre being taken for a ride or for a mug. That someone is getting something over on you. I hate the thought of that and if I suspect it my first thought is to retaliate, (in this instance it would be by considering a price increase). It wouldnt be the first time Id done it and have managed to implement it on a number of ocassions but not necessarily every time.

Its a balance between pride, ego, financial necessity and level-headedness.

Not always easy, could you live with yourself if you just go ahead at 3 monthly on the initial price?

Recently I have had a few domestic customers ask if they can extend the frequency. I am fine about it. They have to make economies, I can understand that, and I keep the customer.

To me its a win/win situation.

I very often give a few different price/frequency options when I quote for commercial work. I do this only if the job is a quaterly,bi-monthly or one-off to see if I can get a monthly job out of it. just make the monthly price look far more appealing than the rest and if you get it , happy days.
