Email is a good way of corresponding, but relies on someone checking their email.

If I understand things correctly, Private Messaging sends a Private Message to someone who is on the forum immediately without the need for that person to check their mail.

So, for example, if you are online at this precise moment, I could send you a mesage and no one else would know about it. If you weren't online, you would receive it as soon as you logged on next time.

It would get rid of all these annoying FAOs - most of whch are annoying ... no matter who they are posted by.

... especially when they are questions to a well-known supplier whose details are freely available both on here and on their web site.

Could you two take this conversation elsewhere please, this forum is specifically for window-cleaning.

Excellent idea - especially if it stops you moaning about it!  ;D

I have to agree with wally on this one, I have to do a post to a supplier on here as I know full well they are here when there shop shuts, where as if we had a PM I could do this direct and save alot of peoples reading time.

Just email him, if it's Alex he's very quick answering too. People are doing exactly the same with you Ian, posting on here for your services. Seems Wally has it in for a certain supplier.  ::)

It gets on my nerves too! I understand you wally!!! I wish that they would use email (or dare I say it) phone them. Fair enough I can understand if the details are not available on the web (where PM would be useful) but suppliers. The ones that irritate me the most are the ones "******************* can you tell me do you do such and such and how much?" The information is on their website, can't you be bothered to look?. Fair enough if it isn't then I am glad you ask, that could help us all but, the rest of the time I think it is down to lazyness. It's in this situation that PM could be useful.

wally,
The reason private messaging isn't here is that as soon as one of your (or anybody else's) posts hits the wind up threshold on some member's low tolerance point you will get threats and abuse.

If just for the sake of argument I called you a name on here, in the first place Ian would delete it, and in the second someone else would come on, support you and call me a name. Private messages however are more personal and therefore more intimidating.

We are all potential targets, you've had a good education for istance, some have religous beliefs, I myself have to suffer the cross of being a wfp pioneer and all round top bloke. To some this is just a red rag.
