Title: shocking price
Post by: ollie on August 18, 2008, 03:40:44 pm
My brother lives in Brighton (he used to run a cc business there) . Anyway, one of his work colleagues mentioned he was getting his large lounge and hall carpets cleaned for £25.00. My brother explained this seemed very cheap and told him to look elsewhere and gave him the NCCA website address. The guy comes into work the next day very confused because he had found a local NCCA member who gave him a quote over the phone which he thought was strange..............£10.00  :o  Anyway he didnt use that company and finally got a great job done for £80.00.   Why the hell would someone join the NCCA, then when a job enquiry comes from someone specifically looking for a member, charge that ridiculous amount?  The mind boggles.

NCCA types seem in general very focussed on the technicalities of carpet cleaning, which is no bad thing.

Unfortunately they will be totally out manoeuvred by a mediocre carpet cleaner who puts more energy into running a business and marketing it well.

Depends what he's doing for £10??

If he goes through the correct procedures then £10 is very cheap but I suspect he won't! this makes a mockery of the NCCA as they can't police individuals but they don't try to either, we have cleaners like that up our way who are NCCA members.

At this moment in time there are more reasons NOT to join the NCCA then there are to join IMO. Too many newbies joining it (which is good) but then they are classed as professional cleaners but with no real experience or you get the cleaner who gets the membership and still carries on cleaning in the same way as before.

I'd have thought that £40 should have been the lowest but clearly people aren't doing their simple maths, if they go out and do a round trip in a town of say 10 miles and use 2 litres of fuel = £2.50 then their the wear and tear and ins and tax and chemical and machine wear and tear, the list of names I could call the cleaner is endless!

Hi Guys

It doesn't matter if he's NCCA or not , he has no idea of how to run a business.

Cheers

He should have told him he thought it was a bit exspensive so he's going to phone round for some more quotes! ;D ;D ;D

Or if he drops to £8.50 hes got a deal! ;D

Had a similar one a couple of months ago, my £1300 vs someon'es £400.  They went for the cheapy :(

They should have had the work done by now, I'm going to give them a ring and try to get back in there to see what they let themselves in for!

Jim their thinking will be that they can get it cleaned 3 times a year, but it sounds as though may need it doing 3 times a year.

Trouble is with most commercials is taht they only get jobs done when it's bad then they shop like they are shopping for stationary, pen is a pen, they don't actually give any value to the service you are doing or the carpet as it's no theirs only thing you do get is that you can offer a NO BRAINER job with no problems and apart from a great clean NO disruption and the negatives that may come with it.
