Title: slx or power pole for general use?
Post by: tradman on August 18, 2008, 02:52:59 pm
hi guys,

i use a fibreglass cheapo pole at mo. looking at a slx, but power pole seems to be more useful to use for trad n wfp n gutter tools (its also quite a bit cheaper). am i better off spending more for a pole like the slx or does the powerpole do the same as the slx but is heavier. any comments welcome

IMO you would be better off with an SL-X m8..... I know someone who says the powerpole is extremy heavy and whippy for its height. Yes there are extra tool y can get for it but better off getting an SL-X then sort yourself out with a gutter cleaning system. A swiss ary knife can do loads of things but you don't buy one instead of a proper tool kit do you........

IMO the SLX is not an up and down pole i find it to long closed and to heavy for doing downs aswell allday, sorry just my opinion. If i were to design a pole for ups and downs it wouldn`t be any longer completley closed than 4ft.

If you are going into the gutter side of things this is part of the set up you need,Ive used one for window cleaning for 18mnts and have now replaced it with an slx......if yr not seriousley thinking about gutter cleaning no no if you are buy one of each.

If your thinking of a pole to be used day after day window cleaning then I'd say the slx, it will be much easier on the body and easier to use also having a shorter close length. The powerpole will almost definatly out last the slx though. But after using the slx you wouldn't want to go back to an alloy or gf pole.

I own 3 Powerpoles and they are fantastic for gutter cleaning, cleaning velux / skylights (very dirty where weight is needed) pressure washing through (cladding) mounting cameras, gutter spikes etc etc, but they are too heavy for wfp window cleaning nowadays. Get your self a SLX or an Xtel  ;)

I do have both poles and they both have good uses.  For every day window cleaning I prefer the SL-X as it is less strain on my body (though plenty of people manage with it just fine).  I found that the Powerpole was fine until I needed to use it at difficult angles.  The flipside of this is that the Powerpole is cheaper and I suspect will last longer.  So a few pros and cons to think about.  There are times when I need a beefier pole like the Powerpole.  Indeed, if I'm working on a particularly windy day, I find the extra weight of the Powerpole a plus.
Whichever pole I'm using, I still find a short pole such as the Ionics 2 x 2ft better for ground floor.  The SL-X can be used for ground floor - even in some tight spots - but sometimes on a hard slog, I just want something even lighter for ground floor work (so long as it can reach).
I don't think it's possible to say definitively which poles are best as a lot depends what type of work you have and how fit your body is.  I'm even findingf that the SL-X has reduced my ladder climbs onto flat roofs still further as it can be used at long length at awkward angles without busting a gut.

SL-X all the way for everything mentioned above. :)
