A good freind of mine has just got a sportsline 174,in black they don`t look to flashy compared to silver i think. The trafic does tick a lot of boxes for me although the sportsline is what i want really, people keep telling me 22k is a lot of money for a work van lol.

Im getting a van soon, not bothered so far just used a box trailer, however its a nightmare to manouver, still not got used to it, my drive is to narrow!
Got a 650 ltre tank in it, wondered whether i should just put that in the van with pump, ro etc, or should i just put in tank and pump, and make water in ibc in shed?? What would you recommend?
Title: Re: vans
Post by: billozz on August 17, 2008, 08:26:19 pm
can you explain why a tank wont go into those vans as they can carry a payload of a ton or more and a 650 tank is about 650kilos

Put a tank and di and pump and varistream in the van and make water at home.

Thanks, i have got di vessel in trailer already too, i have no idea how to do any of it, i bought trailer ready made, i am not very handy like that, is their anyone in north west could help me or do it for me??
Title: Re: vans
Post by: NWH on August 17, 2008, 08:54:22 pm
It`s easy someone could talk you through it on the phone, you need an elbow on the tank from which you run the hose from tank to pump, you then connect the hose from the other side of the pump to DI vessel. All you need to do then is run hose from the other side of the vessel to the hosereel. You will need a battery in the van which can be split charged or taken in and charge at night, you just need to connect 2 wires from varistream to battery and 2 wires to pump and if using a varistream you will need to cut off the wire used for the pressure switch and that`s it.

I would get a bulkhead for the van and use ratchet straps, most vans if not all have points for strapping some have 4 some have 6 points for this.If you have 4 i would put the tank against the bulkhead and use 2 straps in an X shape over the tank from corner to corner.

Title: Re: vans
Post by: STEVE-UK on August 17, 2008, 10:32:31 pm
ive got one reel inside the sliding door bolted down,i can still close the door and lock it on the secondary latch,
one in the back which can be used in or out the van, for this i drilled a whole in the floor and put some hose connection through the towing eye

there off the same pump ,you can get away with 2 people running at the same time if you have the 5 litre per minute pump

actually you can get a 650 tank in an Expert - we have an expert HDI (900kg payload)

full tank of water plus equipment (but no ladders) came in on the weighbridge at 2281kg - gross vehicle weight is 2315kg.

Post by: alanwilson on August 17, 2008, 11:07:23 pm
yes thats what we have - its an 03plate.

new ones have an even bigger payload of 1000kg to 1200kg

There lying, you cannot put that tank in that size van.

That's funny because i have been using a 650ltr tank in my Despatch for the last eighteen months or more - 900kg payload.

If it`s the old 1 your overloaded.

NWH are you thick?  I've told you what model it is - told you I have been to the weighbridge with it fully loaded with water and me in it, all equipment etc on board and you still tell me I'm overloaded!!

Fact is a fact  - I'm not overloaded, nor is anyone else who has the 900kg+ models.

Title: Re: vans
Post by: NWH on August 18, 2008, 05:46:09 pm
Maybe i`m thick then lol,i`ve been in 1 of them with 650ltrs on board and for a minute i though i was cruising out of Dover docks, i wouldn`t want to be driving 1 of them with that amount of water.

I know three users of old shape (07 and earlier) Scudo, Dispatch, Expert Vans and they all have 650L tanks with 900kg payloads.

You do need to be careful if you're two up tho'.

got an expert with 650 litres in it, and i hate it.... it dont pull.... when i brake, i think i may drown.... and when i take a corner i thinks going over....... and i feel sorry for it sat on its arse at the back for two hours until i can relieve some of its load.... poor bugger.  ;D ;D

looking for a transit now. ;)

You want hdi and a flat tank in one really. Pleased with mine, i wouldn't want the bulk of a Transit or Vivario on my round to be honest.

i,ve got a vivaro with a 650 in it and i,m already thinking i should have gone bigger , i use 400 litres a day on average but am thinking of taking someone else on and not sure if the tank gonna be big enough , think i,m gonna invest in an autobrush and see how much that brings down my usage regards alan

You might be able to get these tanks in these vans but it`s how they drive, there uncomfortable they handle badly to say the least.I would much rather have a van that carrys the water with ease.
Title: Re: vans
Post by: geefree on August 18, 2008, 10:37:09 pm
ive heard all transits hold 650 with ease as though its not there...

but i may stand to be corrected with transit owners on the forum  :)

You plug in a hose reel? and walk round with that??
Sorry if i sound simple, just trying to understand how your doing it, my trailer system has hose bolted in and its a pain having to go opposite the opening of the trailer if that makes sense as you cannot pull hose freely, and its a nightmare to reel back in, have to walk it all back etc...

So the simple answer to the question is HDI Despatch, Scudo, Expert. Many on here have them and they are fine.  ;)

Yes ftp is right. The van site gave me info about my scudo  925kg payload and it was £15,000 when new in 2005. I paid 7k plus from the main dealer, and have had it over a year, still only 27k on clock.

Handles the weight easily on corners etc, and drives like there is no load at all.

The roof is lower than a vivaro or transit which makes ladders less of a struggle, it has two side doors, and is easy to park. This is the perfect van.
