I'm talking about the prefilter on my 300GPD RO, the sediment filter is in a clear housing, and after 2,5 months it's quite green now, from the Algae. Is this because it catches light cause it's in the back of my van? I just have metal grilles over the rear windscreen. Is there any problem with this? Shall I just ignore it? The other prefilters are in white housings, they shouldn't be affected should they?
It seems to have gotten worse after I took that filter out, cleaned the housing and the filter under the running tap, might also just be cause it got a lot of sunlight since then? Or perhaps heat from the van being in the sun?

combination of light and heat probably, but here's an idea - after 2.5months change the darn thing!! 6 weeks and no more!

I'm a bit confused to be really honest, some suppliers say 3-4 months even. ???
Thing is I don't produce that much really, about 250l a day.

doesn't matter - its algae not sediment.
I wouldn't listen to most suppliers either - most of them haven't a clue.

So Algae isn't good then?

it won't necessarily do a lot of harm but obviously the idea is to keep prefilter housings, ro housings etc as clean as we can

algae needs uv to live
mask it off somehow

Good idea, I might have to get some UV filter sheets if they exist.

No just block off the windows ::) you do not need UV sheets, but I can sell you some if you want to go down this route, I would saver you money asnd pick up some paper or plastic local, direct sun will green anything as it lives in the water just waiting to grow

Yea, that would probably be the way to go, but I already installed some metal grilles, I would have to take those off first. Hmm. Would just normal sheets that you buy in Halfords do?

get some thick card bigger than window, cut it out so it blocks all sun job done ;)

hi tim
just get a binbag and wrap it round the housing,
with some rubber bands.
that way its not cost you anything and you will still have light in van,
regards
