Title: Any ideas on Battery operated Vacuum cleaner
Post by: Pristine Clean on August 03, 2008, 08:37:16 am
Hi Guys,

I need to purchase a Battery operated Vacuum cleaner. Reason is there is no power on some of the premises where we clean.

Obviouly the vacuum cleaning is inside. So I dont think a generator would be sufficent... baring in mind noise levels as well and fumes from the petrol. And from what I have read you would ned at least an 1800 watts generator to power a vacuum cleaner.

Just wondered if any of you have a Battery operated Vacuum cleaner and have any recomendations.

I have looked at Nilfisk, Karcher and they expensive around £1000 mark for 40minutes of vacuum cleaning power.  Then you need to recharge the batteries. thats take about 2 hours to charge them

Any ideas

Dave

Could you use an inverter and have a couple of big heavy duty batterys in the van, just a thought it might be cheaper than a 12 volt hoover .

looked at an inverter, and that is what also costs money. Again the inverter needs to be able to handle 1800 watts. Sine modified inverters around £400

Then health & safety with leads from the van - did think about a trolly with the batteries.

the hoover is avtually 24volts but I have had a few ideas but all expense so still looks like a £1000 layout.

but thanks for the reply and idea...

hi there .. for me they do the job , they pick up bits off carpets as good as most vacs ,you cannot tell the difference and for less than 50 quid they can be used for up to an hour on one charge

do they actually do stairs?

Is there a seperate hose, is there actually a  tool that sucks up the dirt. Not brushing the carpet.

But we have ordered a battery vacuum now... but would be nice to know in the future...

hi there
they do clean stairs you have to take the long handle off  quite simple really . they work by brushing the carpet or hard floor .. you are correct there is no suction hose .. but for the money it is allways handy to have one on board . they can prove to be quite cost effective .

thanks rafferty, for the advice and time to advise on this product.

I did think that it was just a a sweeper as the name suggested.

I dont think its for us just yet but I will keep it on file as you never know.

I am waiting for the delivery of our new battery operated Vacuum cleaner today runs on 24volt batteries Lasts for about 45 minutes.

But they are expensive - managed to get it for £750.00 in the end.
Plus the contracts we have just won have easily paid for the vac anyhows.

Cheers
