Title: omnipole gutter vac....power washer??
Post by: mark311069 on August 02, 2008, 09:02:42 pm
hi all

got my gutter vac last week but have realised i need a power pole and power washer. the washer from omnipole with all the bits is £2000 ish  plus vat. and i dont have that dosh to hand. i can afford the power pole, but as space in my van is limited can i use a powerfull electric washer with it? and also can i use my wfp water tank in my van to supply it?

In the last couple of weeks two separate power poles (pressure washer fittings inc) have sold on ebay for under £350.

You could use a electric pressure washer if you have the generator but a petrol on would be better for several reasons. Yes you can use your wfp tank to supply it.

As to space in the van, I eventually gave in a bought a box trailer ;D

mark ive just got my gutter-vac  too

you need to get the high pressure kit from omnipole which fits to the powerpole(trigger, hose & nozzle) ,
im also looking at electric pressure washers,i might get the one from wickes - 160 bar and about 650 litres per hour £110. i was told you dont need the heavy duty pressure washer to wash out the down pipes, also you need one which has a thread fitting to the lance rather than the push fit so you can fit it to the powerpole trigger

Hi steve,

Just buy some 2.5 cable (40 meters max) and make one up. I have mine on a metal hose reel.

I couldn't find a made up one either.

I have a 48 ft power pole. its a good bit of kit for the high stuff but the 8 ft sections are a bit of a problem as I am a short a*se. I also have a 36 which I like for most jobs.

ebay is a good thing sometimes if your lucky  ;)

i did think that when i bought it but i'm used to using the old 60 foot pole, 12 foot sections, at £250 i couldnt not buy it ,

i will have to make an extension lead up also

kev , when you work do you take the vac out of the trailer and just leave the generator in the trailer, all pull the full trailer around

im debating whether to buy a small trailer just big enough for the generator or buy the bigger box trailer to put all the kit in, im thinking box trailer will be wider and wont be able to fit up narrow pathways & heavier to pull around

electric pressure washer   and generators dont mix.the pulsing serge from your gene will soon burn out your washer.i went though 2 washer in a month until i found out.(now use honda petrol washer costs about £600 but worth every penny.feed its self from tank

Hi Steve,

I leave the generator and the spare bits of Omnivac tubing in the trailer and work on a 40m extension lead. With the lead the vac lead and the hose you can pretty much get anywhere.  Its good having the vac near you as you need to turn it off every now and then if it gets blocked.

I personally decided to get a small box trailer. The smallest ifor williams one is the perfect size.

ht tp://www.iwt.co.uk/products/boxvan/bv64e.htm

This trailer with the generator is easy to get anywhere even along paths.

Another way of attracting business is to have it sign written and leave it (well secured) parked on the industrial estates etc.

The pic is from Ifor williams site  ;)

I too have a petrol pressure washer. I didn't know that about electric washers I was under the impression you could use any electrical equipment hookde up to a generator . My Omnivac has been fine. I wonder what the difference is?

A friend of mine has recently bought a petrol pressure washer of ebay. It was fine for the tools that came with it but getting it sorted to use his own tools was a problem as the fittings were not standard (made in China)- in this day and age hard to believe I know. He has had several problems.

I am a great believer in you get what you pay for. I have a Honda engined pressure washer and it has been fine without a problem. It cost about £600 plus the dreaded. But it performs every time without fail - worth the extra £ in my opinion. Its not much bigger than an electric. Also if your doing commercial it will need to work connected to your tank in your van and power a long hose (mines 40m) Add at least £400 for the h/p hose and wheel mounted reel. Its not cheap but the rewards are more than worth it.

Too true mate,
I got a £200 petrol PW and had nothing but trouble with it, and the replacement which I then got my money back, can't justify paying £600+ for a good one, so am selling off the rest of the kit, Lance, Gutter cleaner, hose, nozzels etc over on buy and sell :)

Yere lucky. The 13hp honda pressure washers are well over 2k euro here in Ireland.

@ Kev when you leave generator in box trailer do you leave door open with it?

Just a note about our pressure washer range

We supply (and often build)  pressure washers that start from £800.00 up to £15,000 :o
All the cold water ones have the commercial Honda GX range of engines or Diesel powered rather than the lower spec Honda  GC range. We dont want problems for us or our customers which is why we carefully selected the range we sell. We use Izusu diesel engines for our  very big big van and trailer mount units.

The pressure washer we selected for the full gutervac package is absolutly top of the range for a fully mobile cold petrol powered unit, incorporating a reduction gearbox and oversize pump to prevent excesive engine wear.
When used for gutter cleaning it runs with minimum effort and could run all day with out putting any  strain on the engine. This pressure washer can and easily run any size Whirlaway for paving cleaning a service which many of our customers also offer as an add on. We also hire out these units so they have to be reliable and hard wearing. .... So thats the reasoning behind the choice.

I know there are plenty of much much cheaper petrol and electric power washers available from other sources, we set the standard of what specification of equipment we want to supply so we choose not to supply bottom, middle or even the lower level upper range.
We often we supply connectors to link up our high pressure PowerPole to a customers own pressure washer but only if the lance and hose can be detached from one another and they have a screw thread or standard HP push fit connectors (which the very cheap one often dont).

You can get up and running for less than £1500 including a trailer, generator, camera, poles, vac and extension lead. If you Diy. No pressure washer but they can be sourced if you want one.

You don't and yes you could use the customers electric. I decided against it in case i tripped their power out. Say they forget to switch the freezer back on and your profits gone. Also if they are out it could be difficult.
There seems to have been stacks of gutter cleaning done in my area, i don't know which method they are using but customers have been paying top whack for less than half a days work.

Had a gutter clean today absolutely chocca with leaves - the vac worked very well clearing it all out. Went on to clean the outside with wfp - got some funny looks from the smug neighbour who was up his ladder wiping his down. Proper nerd all dressed up in his boiler suit.  ::)
Must admit i did feel a little overprepared what with the generator and all.

I feel (fell) off my ladder once and my legs went through the rungs and my shins scraped along a sharp edge, On both legs there was a 6inch scrape and at the top of each scrape was a big ball of skin and hair. It made me cry  :'( :'( :'(

It w'ont. If it makes it past he head/nozzle it'll make it the est of way. Also a tip i find is flush it with water  its very bad although this fills up vac bit too quickly.

If anything gets stuck at the head you just flick the power switches off and it will drop to the ground.

yes 15 quid per side, thats to cheap for a business i know. but it only took an hour to sides 45 quid in all.  but if i got vac system it would be a lot dearer i guess.  if its a 3 bed semi with three sides i guess it would be around 100 or more?
