Title: Slx extension
Post by: jaykie on July 30, 2008, 07:51:05 pm
Ive just ordered my slx and was told you can add a part of the xtel to it to make it longer, but needs modding, does anyone know how to do this.

We do the modification for free................

if you buy the section from us at a vastly inflated price.  No, not really.  The section is a base section from a 28ft X-Tel with slight modification to the clamp.  I also provide full instructions for use and can provide a quick release connector to make this possible.

Make an extension from the first section of an old worn out hybid extel pole using the pole attachments as in this photo below and just screw it onto the top section of the SL-X before the gooseneck. These pole attachments can be purchased from Varitech in Newton Abbot.

Ah yes, I remember you posting that.  Simple but effective!  I believe Varitech make up their own versions of this don't they?

They do, to go on the end of the gooseneck to make an extended gooseneck for wide sills. My version goes before the gooseneck onto the end of the pole. Thought of the idea a couple years ago. :)

Wouldn't extending the 4ft from the top rather than from the base mean there is a lot of extra strain put on the top section of your original pole and so make it more likely to break....?

this is what i thought Mr H as ive got a xtel and think the last section is the worst part of the pole, i only ever have the end section half way out.

There is indeed. The way to make it even stronger would be to glue the attachments to the pole and 'bandage' over the attachments with the next size up pole extension covering 4 times the length of what's physically being held inside the attachment and securing the lot with small nuts, bolts and washers to be on the cautionary side as it would be too weak to use at a decent height. It is just an emergency way of extending the pole for a short period of time as an extreme measure. This should really be confined to DIY wfp sites for DIY users. It's not professional, I don't recommend it (professionally), it is just an experiment I tried with an old worn out pole as I am always looking for smarter ways, (or sometimes stupid) to improve the way I work.
