Title: RO-MAN gone weird
Post by: sean.w.c.s on July 23, 2008, 08:25:17 pm
major probs with my RO-MAN - any ideas?

200g a day RO MAN system. TDS has been creeping up the past few days so i changed the filters yesterday, with some i had ready. TDS still high, so i put fresh resin in today, thinking that would solve it.

Reading is 12 coming out of RO, then it goes through DI and comes out as 34!!! i have no idea and am desperate - pleaaase help  :-*

Did you flush your new filters for an hour or so??

i didnt do a back flush, but the instructions said make 10 gallons, then chuck it away, which i did. the water reading was still high, so i put new resin in. it came out at 40, but went down to 14 withing 5 mins. i left it for a couple of hours and then checked - now its 34. confused ???

What filters did you replace?  The pre-filters or the membranes and what size DI cannister/vessel do you have?

Andrew

sounds like your tds meter is playing up  - it could need new batteries or replacing.

Hiya Sean :)

Warm tonight isn't it?  I am in Barrow mate.

Alan could be right about your meter but I suspect that you have contaminated your resin. When you replace your prefilters you should disconnect from the DI and run your RO in FLUSH mode for say 30 mins. The carbon filters will initially give off "fines"  that is very small particles and you need to get rid of these. Give the RO a good flush and replace your resin. Hopefully that should do it.

Leave it overnight and take the readings again. I have a ro man RO and have noticed that you sometimes seem to get high readings for a good few hours after changing the filters. When this has happened to me I have left it overnight (while panicing and planning to ring ro man in the morning) only to find that all is ok the next morning. Don't know why though!

thanks thats a relief!

will flush it for 30 mins then leave it for the night.
looks like i wont be doing much work tomorow - why does it always break when there is loads of work to do? on a dry week! 8) it always works when its raining  >:(

thanks guys

It's the carbon fines that causes the high reading. Just disconnect from DI and flush well then connect up and all should be OK.  :)  Or even better disconnect the pipe that leads from the prefilters to the RO membrane housings and run the water through the prefilters only for a few mins.
