Leave Barclays when your free banking finishes as their charges are a complete rip off. Also their ethics are shameful. I moved over to Abbey last year and its saved me over 100s if not more!

mr merson,

Do you have any idea how much your going to be paying when your free period ends! Just because you get a business bank manager and a fancy folder doesn't make it 'cool' you will get that everywere, you seem very naive to me. I would like to see your face when you get your first bill for commision.

Make sure you dont sign the simply business contract, they will have you then.

Abbey isn't the greatest of business banking services but I've always stayed within their limits and never paid them a penny so I'm not complaining.  Mind you, I only have 13 free cheques left to bank this month so I may have to hold a few back until August.  I'm away for a week in August so not much chance of exceeding the 100 limit that month.

Not going to look it up as I don't recall where to find the info but memory tells me it's 50p a cheque after the 100.  There's also a charge after 3 grand a month in cash but I doubt any sole traders here will lose any sleep over that.

Rick,

I'm with them too mate. I know its not that bad but a three figure sum every time a bill lands on my door is more than what these free business bankers pay. I dont like change, thats why I swallow it.

See you on friday mate,

Alex

We used to be with Barclays but they are now one of the most expensive business banks to be with, charges for everything.

Changed to Alliance & Leicester (Post Office) a couple of years ago and I now pay about £3 per quarter in bank charges again £160+ with Barclays.  I also get a decent rate of interest on the account as well.

As previously mentioned if u join FSB for about £100pa, plus joining fee,  u get loads of benefits including reimbursement of all additional accountancy costs when investigated by taxman and free business banking with coop FSB account.

I can totally understand people wishing to use a personal current account though, I did that for about 18 yrs whilst self employed, never had a problem.
