Title: Carpet Made From Recycled Glass
Post by: Chris_Thomas on July 18, 2008, 11:19:07 am
£7500 worth in a rented flat. Looks apparently like tufted wool.
Anybody with any experience of cleaning this?

Cheers

Chris

The obvious question is WHY?

Potential problems in cleaning.
Sorry if I didn't make that clear.

LOL Chris no I meant why would someone have it if it was just like wool. ;D

I know the fibre optic carpets, which are quite groovy, are polymers rather than extruded glass yarn, cleaning those would be a nightmare.

Chris, do your customers not mean recycled pop bottles and ketchup bottles ie plastic.

I used to retail carpets and at one time, this type of carpet was on market.

It was sold as stain proof, worked on the idea that stains wouldnt stick, as with a
ketchup bottle, once stood up all the sauce runs to bottom of pot and leaves upper
sides clean.

I actually bought one, was about an inch thick, very durable, but did have trouble removing
the odd stain.

Andrew

Colin

Thanks for that.

Andrew

Property manager is convinced about it being glass.
It's fairly low profile and harder than wool to the touch.

PS Steamer arrived today- looks good.

Hi Guys

I spent 6 years developing glass tissue products which are like paper but made from glass fibres.

Even using E Glass and a very soft binder it still had a glassy feel and was far too brittle to walked on.

I would imagine it must have a lot of plastic in it..

Guys

I'm wondering whether someone's misheard glass for grass. ;D

I haven't seen it myself yet, hopefully all will become clear next week.

Thanks for all the replies

Chris, hope it isnt sea grass, have to be dry clean only with envirodri or the likes of,

Nice clean steamer isnt it, hope you get a few £30 add ons to your jobs, will be paid
for in a jiffy.

Hi Guys

I would suspect the glass may well refer to the base, Flotex for example has a glasss tissue base, I helped develop it .

Alternatively it could be more marketing bull.

I was talking to Dave L  a few of months ago and he was off to clean a carpet made of paper. I had not heard of a paper carpet until then. Quite interesting  when you look it up and amazingly strong.

Dave if your on ovr the weekend, how did you get on with it?
