Title: Pricing Gutters & Fascia
Post by: CC Windows on July 17, 2008, 04:39:00 pm
One of my customers has asked me to give them a price to clean the gutters and fascia on their property!

There is probably around 40ft in total, its not the cleanest so isnt a case of a quick 'wipe'

What is the going rate? or do people just charge a day rate? my only concern is if it takes longer than anticipated, but I dont want to go in with too high a price, and not get the job and also with them being current customers

i would decide on how much i wanted per hour, and roughly work out how long it would take to clean..... then add a little bit more in case of any difficulties...

did one yesterday, took longer than i thought, so , glad i priced it up that way... ;)

My price is £3 per metre for really grubby and £2 for less grubby.

You'll probably find that the north facing side  (if there is one) is considerably grubbier. (Something to do with algae not liking sunlight, I think.)

Check it first and point it out to the customer (if it is as I said) and point out the difference in price. They'll think you're a genius.

I tend to look at the condition of the gutters and facia.

Are they painted or plastic?

Am I going to use pole or clean off a ladder.

How is the access.

I charge from £1:00 to £2:00 a foot normally.

Hope this helps.

They are all plastic!

Access at the back is straight forward, at the front not so straight forward due to a sloped block paved drive! could park the van at the bottom of the ladders to make it safer!

£3.00 per linear metre as a standard, minimum £40.00.

reason i think it might be too cheap ???
a few months ago i got talking to some blokes fitting upvc fascia
they were based in nottingham (40 odd mile away),they said that they also did cleaning as well
i asked how much for the house they were working on
i told em i would charge £25 fr upstairs or £40 for whole house
they fell about laughing ::)
150 quid for that mate  :o :o :o
they said they get plenty of work at those prices
fair play to em ;D

I know i'm cheap compared to some in my area, but i figured it a reasonable price for the time taken. I'm hoping to push the prices as the work builds. I find it hard to price too high because i don't dig the gutters out - only wash the outsides.

maybe they are specialists but if iam 40 quid and they are 150
then ishould at least be splitting the difference
n'est pas  ;D

the gutter scrper tool fits on the  screw of a 5m harris pole
amazing how quick you can scrape out  a 3 bed detatched

Trouble is my arms are only about three feet long, my legs are about four foot long and the gutter is at least twenty feet high.  ;D

If you do the job well i.e using specialist cleaning chemicals get up there on ladders clear out gutters properly, test system ,fix leaks and make sure what you cant see isnt blocked, downpipes unbelievable how many people don't bother checking.
If the jobs done well and they look almost new again, you can charge anywhere from £50 terrace to £200 large detached,
People running around doing a full and dangerous days work for £50 ,are ruining the business for me and others who do a quality service.
Charge more and do more.
