first job this morning living room dining room h/s/l got to address no one in after half hour they turned up got in the house crap every were badly soiled pink carpet dogs kids etc and just not looked after, any how confimerd price £88 and shes added 2 bedrooms to the price >:( saying thats what i told her load rubbish got her to agrree to extra price cheap £120 and pointed out to her in advance that as they were badly marked some of the staines would prob not come out which she agreed , 2 hours later and lot hard work i said i was finished she then phone her mum and a friend (think she thought she was on who wants to be a millinare programme) ??? to inspect it and they told her not to pay as some marks had not come out i then pointed out that some were not coming out and i had told her that before i started the job and she had agreed to that (used some gen spotter but they were not shifting she had used 10001 on it and set some of them ) the water was black and they look 100 times better >:( well after about 10 mins of this i was asked to leave as iam getting in my van i said i thought u was going to be trouble and laughed (well what else do u do ???} she then said u will not be laughing when my oldman comes to c u ??? excuse me but what part dont i get she has just robbed me and got free clean and her oldman is coming to get me !!! some people dont live on same planet as me !!! :o

I would say , it just goes to show another benifit of inspection , before the booking
do you not survey the job first?
Quite often a feel for the type of customer you are dealing with can be realised
on an inspection, and at the least you would have noticed the stains that could of been a problem!!
Yes I know we cant always spot a problem customer, but more often than not
you are minimising the liklihood.
as for the old man!!!!! I would have taken that as a threat, and that is , as far as i know against the law??????????

Always, Always, Always get the limitations written down and get the customer to sign. Give the customer a copy of the survey/ quotation before cleaning.
After the service appointment they get another copy marked invoice and as long as the limitations are written down and signed for there cannot be any of this "That mark is still there" rubbish.
Customers like this are bad news. You are probably not the first and certainly won't be the last.

I must say that given the situation and her attitude from the off I would have turned it down easy in hindsight I know but the alarm bells must have ringing.
As for the old man, take him out and buy him a pint, he deserves a spot of R&R if he has to live with this old bat and put up with the mother in law aswell. ;D

Are you advertising "If your not happy, its FREE" or similar.
If not I dont understand why she refused to pay. If she was only say 60% happy, why would she not pay 60% of the agreed price. Better than nothing.

Seeing as i do NOT advocate hitting women personally,i would suggest waiting for the old man to return. Fill him in :-X and he will take it out on her later.
He was going to come looking for you so you just saved him a journey, plus he gets to lay down straight away ;D

Even if you do advertise a money back guarantee etc. this kind of customer is usually easy spotted, and like Woodman we'd have walked away. However, going back to what I wrote earlier, even if you do offer a money back guarantee, writing down all the limitations and explaining it to the customer will leave them with no reason to come back at you with an arguement.
Survey, test, explain.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing!
Next time you will spot the signs and not give it a chance to happen.

u lot hav wicked minds :o lol no i dont adv that i can get every stain out, and yes i knew she was going to be trouble but i had drive 20 miles so had to go for it i am usally good at spoting bad ones this is first time in 10 years i hav never been paid for a job i did drop the money to £80 but she and the old bat were having none of it she obv needs it more than me bless her little heart ::)

I had the same problem yesterday. My first unhappy customer since starting up over a year ago.
Upper flat - entrance stairway & upper hallway to be cleaned. Cream carpet polyprop with very heavy traffic lane & staining.
Pre-qualified customer that marks would most likely not come out but I said I would give it my best shot. She agreed and said for me to carry on.
Anyway to cut a long story short spent over an hour cleaning the carpet then customer went off on one as the marks hadnt came out.
Packed up my stuff and left with payment in full. The customer was at it trying to say that i hadnt even cleaned the area in question - even though her husband nearly tripped over me when I was on my hands and knees scrubbing it with my hand tool!
Think she was expecting me to walk away without payment but I knew I was in the right. i did consider giving a slight discount but changed my mind when she basically started calling me a liar >:(
Mind u I was shaking a bit when taking the payment from the gorilla of a husband top to toe in tatoos! :o
