Hi Guys,
Last night we had a phone call saying we were elegible for a free carpet clean......Whats the catch....nothing they said.
Obviously there was one and I wanted to know what it was so I accepted.
Today at 2.30pm two gentlemen turned up at mine and it turned out that they were selling Kirby cleaners for £2000. The demonstration was very impressive and lasted a boring 2.5hrs but 2K is steep. They eventually say they will let it go for £1500. No I said and they were on their way.
Anybody else ever come across this?

Did they show you the bed sheet test.
Lucky for me a mate of my misses worked for kirby and we got a ex demo one for £700, awesome bit of kit, and there warranty is 10 year i think so parts replaced quick.

Chris,
Yes they did. Im sleeping in my van tonight ;D ;D ;D
-
Had the same about 9 years ago. when I said no his boss rang me and said that he was in a draw to win a holiday if he made my sale. There was no holiday for me so I showed him the door. Thier sales tactics are dubious and I do not plat the sympathy vote.

Dont blame you, makes you open your eyes, worth the money if you clean as often as my misses, we got the carpet cleaner version built in and it draws the dirt from the under lay, makes our dyson look silly.

Check out "Which magazine" about them... There was a documentary about the company a few years ago and with the bed test you will get the same result with any decent vacuum.
I've tred 1 and they are very heavy and noisey. I'm sure it was in a which or a similar type of magazine and they said you can get just as good results from a decent machine costing less than £250.

I have the one with the handy butler and polisher etc, they were selling for around £500 I'm going back a few years now.
Kirby imported them into the UK at a total cost of £90 and sold them for £500.
The price comes down the more you say no, they also reduce the items you get with it.
The bed test was created to make you feel sick and buy one, everyone's bed is the same (even the queens Lol) unless you hoover it from the day you get it.
-
hmmm - we have one but I never use it - the missus does but if I'm hoovering then I just use the beam system in our house. less hassle.
we got our kirby secondhand though, car boot sale about 5 years ago. think I got it for 200

Mine has been demoted to the workshop and is just used with the jewlers polishing wheels on.
-
The method of selling is dreadful IMO.
Its true waht was said - the more you say NO the lower the price goes.
Ive heared of as low as £800 that started off as £1500
However, the vac cleaner itself is a good machine.
More then a few carpet cleaners use them as the suction is good and they do beat the carpet therefore loosening the dirt.
I bought one off ebay, its the G4 model, about 10 year old, the first model that has the assisted movement device, this in effect makes the machine soooo easy to push/pull - light as a feather. The machine really weighs no more then a Dyson but with the assisted movement it feels much much more easier to move.
It cost me £110 and for the job it does its good value at £110 (but not at £1500 nor £800).
If you want a good vac for your own home you cant beat Sebo Felix or Dart. German manufacture, doesnt drop to pieces like Dysons can, and sucks well. Abut £200 brand new off dealers on Ebay .

Haven't you had the free weekend in a hotel trick yet? The catch is you have to have all your meals in the hotel at vastly inflated prices so it turns out your stay isn't free at all. That was a few years back, they even did the "can i borrow your phone and call my boss?" then as soon as he comes off the phone he magically reduces the price. ::) You then wave him goodbye and watch him climb back in his beaten up old Mondeo.

"can i borrow your phone and call my boss?" ;D ;D ;D
LOL ;D ;D We had that too. You've tickled me there mate ;D ;D

Yes, I used to do it myself. ;D
Horrible job though, high pressure shock tactics. :o

I found this online. Edited it, printed it and my wife and I have signed it. I thought it was funny ;D
Love Contract
to Not Buy Thousand-Dollar
Vacuum Cleaners
We, the ____________ family, acknowledge that security and comfort are at
least partially dependent on financial resources. This family also
knows that darn good vacuum cleaners are available NEW for as little as
$190.
We pledge to keep these two facts in mind when confronted face-to-face
or over the phone with the virtues of a Kirby vacuum cleaner. And we swear to never spend $3,000, $2,000 or even $_____ for a f---ing vacuum cleaner.
Because no vacuum cleaner, even if it is guaranteed to solve all the
other health and comfort problems in our home, and even if we are
promised that it will last for 1000 years, can hold our family together
if we don't trust one another with a greasy door-to-door salesman.
We, the undersigned, swear to keep this Love Contract for as long as we
both shall live.

In twenty years we've been caught twice by these sales persons. Different techniques each time. The last one was a real motormouth. We were out of breath just listening to the guy.
I've since seen several in bits and pieces discarded in custies gardens.

Kirby brings back some good memories, worked for them for about a year, made some really good money! They are good cleaners, but not really worth the 4 times the amount more than a standard cleaner. There was a guy on ebay a while back selling them for around £500 or something! :)
