i put a quote in for a job with a housing association and theyve accepted the quote but they are assuming the quote is + vat
my question is can you charge the vat if your not vat registered,i heard some where you can .
-
No. VAT is payable to HMRC. You can only charge VAT if you are registered. You should amend your quote to state that there is no VAT
-
not at all ...you need to be vat redg for that then you would have to send the 17.5% vat on the top of yr invoice to the I/R......I have some orders like that from A***O* i just send in my Invoice as per order less the vat amount.
-
when i sent them the quote i didnt charge vat ,i will give them a call monday and hope they dont only accept vat registered firms
-
you need a vat registration number on your invoices if you are vat registered

I wouldn,t bother calling them steve just send in your invoice as per normal without vat,and you,ll get paid.
-
Keep it simple.
At the bottom of your invoice clarly state " Total price"
-
If you are non VAT registered you should not even mention VAT
-
do you think if i told them i was not vat registered i wouldnt get the job?
-
Some companies expect you to be VAT registered. It is usaully stated on the tender document
-
hopefully i will be vat registered soon as things are moving fast, i just want to get my foot in the door with this particular housing association, it could lead to quite a lot of extra work

You can register voluntarely. It does help to attract new business. There is no legal requirement if your turnover is beloe £67k. see www.hmrc.gov.uk/vat/index.htm
