Title: Whats better Berlingo or Scudo for 1 man
Post by: MNWC on July 09, 2008, 06:39:23 pm
Hi

thinking of getting a van soon.

So in your opinion what is better for a one man set up a Berlingo size van or Scudo size.

obviously  the berlingo will be cheaper to run about diesel etc

What size tank can i have in either ?

Marcus

Depends how much water you use.

IMO go for dispatch over scudo (not sure if the engine etc on the scudo are the same).

New dispatch has a higher payload. I have old style dipatch, 900kg payload with a 600 litre tank.

Hi Marcus

we have an expert HDI with a 650ltr 2 man setup.  It costs LESS to run than the little Partner I have for a runaround.

go for the expert HDI or dispatch HDI - better vans mate.

I only use about 250-350 litres a day

And my work is only about a 3 mile radius from my house

Probably find it easier to fit gear in dispatch, but would go for bigger tank. Even if you don,t need it would make it easier to sell to other wfp in future. Better too big than small.

From what you say sure berlingo type van would be OK for tank, just a matter of what other gear you want to fit in it.

hi Marcus
I have a berlingo van with a 250 tank in. my work is local but I have to come home once a day to re-fill. this did not bother me a first but now I wish I bought a bigger van!

well for what this is worth, my mate brought a connect and put a 500ltr system in there he does a full days work out of that size tank but recently i put him onto so different jets that cause more pressure due to there design, we changed them for him now he use far less water in fact he only has to fill up every other day, so its not always the size of your tank,

i've got a scudo and would definitely not waant anything smaller.

if your round is small domestics and yoou work 5-6 hours you might get away with a berlingo

I've got a P Partner (Berlingo)  and find its more than enough for one man. What I like is being able to park it in places that you couldn't get a bigger van in. Round here thats important. It is a bit cramped for space in the back however.

Very economical, amazing really, I only fill it up about once a month.

I have the same problem on my round. I use vauxhall combo's. Both me and my son have one each and they're great for one person, but thats it. If we went back ot one van no way could we do it in a combo, the scudo wouls be the smallest

Scudo is great size.  2 side doors.  Plenty of room for 1 man.
Better to have more space than be cramped.  Easy parking, very economical.  Big fuel tank, I filled mine up last night £90!!

Although websites usually say payload is 815 - 900kg, it is in fact 1000kg.  Check on chassis plate - it states it clearly, I found out.

The permissible weights are usually on a plate inside the drivers door. You have to open the door to see it.

I'll tell you later, when I have a look (I can't remember)

If/when you find it, it displays Gross vehicle weight and Gross kerb weight.  (one is the vehicle weight fully laden, the other is unladen) You take the lesser figure away from the greater and the difference is the gross weight the vehicle can carry.
