I saw a painter rubbingf down the other day. His ladder was at about a 45 degree angle to bridge over a ground floor roof. I didn't think to much of it as I naturally assumed it was dug into soft earth (far from ideal but reasonably OK if dug in properly). As I walked by I saw it was on a pebble driveway with nothing footing it. I just cringed. I thought about asking him if he wanted it footed until he had finished but, not wanting to judge someone by how they look, I got the feeling my offer would be badly received.
