Can anyone offer any advice for targeting & pricing for carpet cleaning in pubs.
I want to send out flyers aimed specifically at the pubs in and around my area, does anyone have a flyer I could look at?
Also what sort of price should I be quoting per sq/foot.
Any good selling tips for getting my foot in the door, how often do you normally clean them - 3 month/6 month??
Cheers Paul

Good luck. You'll need it!
You can basically split pubs into two categories, clean ones and dirty ones.
The clean ones are most often part of a national chain, and will have a national franchise company clean for them. The decision and payment isn't made locally, it's made at head office. Examples are Wetherspoons, Tom Cobleigh's, Marstons, Everards etc...
The dirty ones are dirty because the landlord doesn't give two sh*ts about the state of his pub, which tells you something about the state of the average billy bunter he gets in through the door. Again, you're flogging a dead horse most of the time - even if you did get the chance to quote they'd choke at your prices.
There's likely to be a small number of free houses in your area who'd maybe be interested in cleaning work, it's just a question of doing your research. How's that for an excuse to go out and drink beer every night of the week?!
Don't waste your time with flyers! Pull up all the pubs in your area on yell.com and ring them up. Hopefully you'll get the odd little bit of interest in between getting hung up on. The holy grail is getting an agreement to go out and quote. It's a good idea to keep a record of who you call and when, and their reaction. You don't want to waste your time re-calling flat refusals.
Pricing - it's going to be a lot harder work than you think, price it well and sell it even better! ;)

oh, and you'll normally clean a pub about 3 years after it needed it, hence my comment about pricing.
-
Unless you are willing to work unsociable hours for no extra money I'd steer clear. I did the pubs and restaurants when I started out but found that as others have previously stated the pubs usually needed cleaning 3 years previous and the landlord didn't give a toss.

We are very local to each other. Would be interested in catching up. Sure we can help each other out.

Try for £2.50 per SQm. I usually get mine at that price

The news today says pubs are closing at the rate of 4 per day all due to the no-smoking and the credit crunch.
Not good if your hoping that pubs and suchlike will be the mainstay of a business.

We had the smoking ban here in Wales before England and I think it's going to get worse for you, it seems that every day we notice more pubs gone!! One small town near us had 9 pubs it now has 2! :o They all seemed to be converted to flats, houses and convienience stores but since the credit crunch now they just remain empty. the only good news is people are partying at home and when they get the carpets trashed they don't wait 3 years after the event before getting them cleaned.
One night club we used to do every 6 weeks have waited 4 months before getting them done and even after waiting all that time it's not as dirty as it used to get after 6 weeks,so obviously they have seen a huge drop in trade they have even gone from opening 4 nights a week to 2 because it was so quiet.
all the best

It's the same round here pubs are closing left right & centre.
The government are completely out of touch and if they think the smoking ban has nothing to do with them closing down they are more stupid that I thought. There is no substantiated evidence anyway that second hand smoke has an effect on non smokers, traffic fume alone are far worse. With the air conditioning and extraction that is available in todays world, there was no need to introduce a ban. What a fool hardy lot we have ruling us.

and yet hospitals have recently reported less heart attack cases since the no smoking ban.
-
Well they would, wouldn't they joe.

I was working for policeman last week and he says the calls for domestic violence have shot up since the smoking ban and the police are finding it really difficult to keep up with the calls as instead of being mainly in the town centre the calls are coming from everwhere as people seem to be buying cheap booze from the supermarkets and having a few cans and a few ciggies, and then to round the evening off they then beat the wife up! :o I wonder if the n.h.s. have released those figures? I doubt it.
All the best

I dont think its the ciggies causing the violence..

Had two stop smoking consultations on Thursday eve £180, so it's not all bad. ;D
-
Thought stop smoking consultations were free on the health service, I see adverts everywhere !
-
Invariably I get the ones who have tried everything that's free, then patches, then acupuncture etc.
Not saying everyone quits either.

Are you a hypnotherapist, Robert's been a comlementery therapist for about six years. He used a Thor laser rather than needles for smoking cesssation, but was never happy with the results.

Getting back to the subject of cleaning Pub carpets.....I have found in the past 15 years of cleaning this type of carpet it made very little difference if the carpets were 3 years overdue for cleaning. WHY i hear most of you say.......simple BECAUSE I USE A TRUCKMOUNT.....NOT A PORTABLE ;D.....so the heavy build up is easily removed when using chemicals like PC Enzyme pre-spray, PC PowerBurst, HM Blitz.

Robert is currently on a self imposed ban from posting follwing a second heart scare. I am working along with our son to keep things going for now.
Robert hopes to only work on leather in future and I am just looking out for anything of interest which pops up on here.
We worked together for some years and I've a fair knowledge of the business though we don't agree on everything as you might expect.
Angie
I have posted in the past but not for a while
Sorry for the interuption Richie and you're right, using powerful chemicals and heat makes cleaning easy peasy. Been their got the t shirts

Wish him a speedy recovery from me and I'm sure everyone else on the forum.
Yes, sorry Richie, back to T/M and harsh chemicals! ;D
-
Yes I hope the old bugger gets well soon, sending my best regards.

Id sooner use a so called harsh chemical (that does no damage BTW) than a chemical (liquid MS or Seawater) ;D that cant give the results that I & customers are used to seeing.
Richie.

Seems strange to me.
All this talk about M/S verses traditional chemicals and weather they damage your carpet, yet nobodys mentioned the damage risks to our health, most if not all M/S are labelled as non toxic, surely thats the main point, unless your going in wearing full head to toe protection with an air fed mask your breathing in and taking in through your skin whatever you choose to put down on the carpet, that's the selling point for ME.
