Hi all :)
I'm planning on employing a friend of mine to canvass up some new work for me. He was a window cleaner, but packed in a few years ago and moved away... but still has all the pricing knowledge etc, so I will be letting him price the work....
...I'll be paying him an hourly rate, plus commission... now, does anyone have any idea what a fair rate of commission is?

basic wage plus £1 and has to get say 5 houses to cover this per 5 hour shift, then half the clean on top of basic wage if hes any good he will earn a lot if not you cover your bases commission paid after clean

I think that is more than fair myself and works for me.
you could always pay £3 extra per house but it depends on what you charge. if houses are underpriced and I clean them then I charge that back to canvasser

1 x the first clean amount. 0.5 if every 8 week cleans. if they are any good and have the right area to canvass they could earn a very good wage and you will build up a nice round at not much cost ;)

I agree with that.
The canvasser gets the full price of the value of the clean.
It encourages them to get the best price and in essence you clean the house free once and it's yours henceforth.
Good way to build up a round at the face value as opposed to the multiples of X3, X4 usually asked for a ready made round

i pay £8.00 per hour plus first clean amount to one of my staff, he canvasses about 5-8 hours a week

Thanks guys :)
Think am gonna go with £7 per hour plus 50% of the first clean... well I'll run it past him and see what he says, if he wants more theres scope for increase. Am paying for his 140 mile round trip here too :P

i pay my guy the first clean once i,ve been paid plus a tenner for every £50.00 of work canvassed then i pay the price of the clean again after its been cleaned 4 times , its working great , all i would say is look after them financially if you get agood one regards alan

Interesting post this..... funnily enough I am meeting a guy tomorrow who may be doing this for us in the near future.
I was thinking along the lines of what Nat posted, but what Alan has said is extremely good as well. This would keep the person interested in getting decent customers.
Must admit I don't want to pay anybody a basic wage plus incentives......it's hard enough for us to get a basic wage!! ;)
