Well laminate floors and leather suites are still with us and will be for some time.

Leather cleaning and restoration can be a good add-on for a carpet cleaner.

When I go to clean carpets and I see laminate/wood floors I tell them the benefits of having carpets.
Fashion and fads will bring a turn a-round soon - so why not put it into the minds of our customers.

Probably lots of new cleaning product available now - microsplitters and other "green" products probably more prominent with lots of c/cleaners.

Andy,
If I were you I'd think again. Carpet cleaning is very quiet indeed with the economic situation as it is and if you're thinking of starting up from scratch again you might find it very hard indeed.
Don't give up your day job is probably the best advice. Do a bit of CCing part time for starters and see how it goes.

Simon

Give it a go of you think you can do it. No reason why you cant! Been at it for 5 years now and doing alright, wouldn't want to be a new starter as mentioned above.

Grab the bull by the horns and just do it, be cautious though!!

All the best,
Jason.

Hi Andy

Having predicted a severe recession and May was slower than last year , I have had a really busy June.

I too strated just before the last recession, if your determined enough you will make it, but think why you gave up last time.

Cheers

Doug

Andy,

It strikes me that the thing you need to think about is how you will do things differently this time in order to succeed. You have already had one go and not succeeded. If you don't do things differently this time then you are planning to fail again. Have a good think about why you packed it in yet many other carpet cleaners flourished. If you find the answer you are halfway towards making a success of it this time.

Good luck

Nigel

Andy,

In every city, there are many carpet cleaners.

In every region, it is rare to find reputable leather cleaners.

Carpet cleaners form the base of the cleaning and restoration industry.

Leather cleaners are at the apex of this industry.

Location cleaners only can do work within a certain radius.

Plant cleaners can cover all over the country.

Just look around, carpet just covers the floor.

Look around things covered with and made of leathers.

Where leather is, there shall be your business will be.

Where it is spread wider, it has less chance of a over crowded at times.

You also should by then have referrals that need your expertise to satisfy peculiar customer that want “original characteristics” to be return at an appreciated value.

When leather restoration is concern especially on corporate accounts like airlines, embassies, or multinationals book value is taken into consideration.

Remember high-end leathers appreciate by 3 to 5% yearly to cover inflation.

It is always viable to restore them back to original characteristic that save.

High-end market include lawyers, accountants, professional service providers, banks, etc.

Their office have nothing to show except their good taste for things leather including leather tables, floors, walls or ceilings.

Their “image” needs:

Routine Care!

Periodic Care!

Restoration Care!

It is simple but not easy, basic ingredient for success is aptitude and attitude.

In leather some can, some just can’t; its in the personality.

Technical Know-How in every of your project is available through this forum.

And the marketing in presenting and educating your customers too!

Give it a taught!
