Hi Guys,
dont know if its been covered before... I have had a look could not find anything... I am looking for ideas if you could share them that would be great.
Scenario
OK, So we have just quoted for a cleaning job. 10 hours a day on going cleaning 7 days a week.
We just heard, that we have got the contract on a trial basis of 3 months. If after 3 months the clients are happy we get it for 12 months.
The equipment not a problem, staffing is. Apart from placing an advert in all posible locations and fingers crossed. How do you manage a contract, you cant hire staff before the contract starts.
Hows it done...by other companies... Do they just use recruitment agencies as temps. Until we staff it ourselves.
As if you dont take on more contracts your company wont ever grow. Ideas please

I would get an agency in with some temp staff for a couple of weeks or sowhile I was advertising for staff at the job centers. Once I had enough staff of my own I would get rid of the agency - I know you pay alot more for an agency but it solves an tempary staffing problems, plus you have to think how much is that contract is worth and could you aford to loose it.

Other companies use a mobilisation plan, and then stick to it.
Write down everything that you need to do, then put a start date and a compleated date next to it. a Project plan, agree it with the customer then deliver against it
Include everything, from adverts to zone numbering for the cleaning specification and staff training.
I would start by identifying how the trial is being measured in 3 months, and what is classed as a pass and a fail. If this includeds TUPE.
I would also make sure they are paying a premium for the trial, as your costs will be higher

Staffing:
Place adds (all year long)in shops, Internet (try viva street) then when they phone you tell them the position is no longer available but there is more work available soon, that way you build up a small database of staff, also dont forget to ask your present staff if they know of anyone, apart from that its a case of covering them yourself until you can find someone.. ;)

yes we do that already... collecting the contacts etc, I just thought there might be another way and I was missing out!.

Why don`t you advertise for staff at the job centre plus?

Oh yes I do advertise at the jobcentreplus site.
And in local shops and papers. - I just wondered if I was missing some technique, that larger companies do.
apart from a mobilsation plan, when you go in and quote the client, they asks sometime have we got staff at hand... I mean if we said NO! It wont look very good. So I end up covering the job... untill I find a new member of staff. Or one of my other staff want extra work etc.
Some times when things are bad we use agency staff not great but it works out.
Just thought there might be an easier way to grow...for employees as such.
