Title: What do people want
Post by: Helen on June 23, 2008, 03:01:56 pm
We are currently advertsing for evening cleaners. The job needs 2 people. Per person - 12.25 hours per week mon, tues, wed & fri evenings.
Because it is 7 miles out in the sticks we pay in addition 2 hours per week travelling time (Mostly dual carriageway takes 15 mins one way) So 14.25hrs per week gross £104.03 per person.
Everyone who calls, says it is good of us to pay the travel allowance as no-one else does that!
The hourly rate of £7.30 is attractive round here as usually eve cleaning maxes at £7.00 per hour.
Ths client offers discount for us and our cleaners in the shop on site. (which they are told about!)
Arrange to meet people on site and they don't turn up ::) ::)
Am I wrong or is this country in decline and everyone is shouting about how they need more money or what? Don't mean to sound patronising, but hey work is work.....just sounding off I'm sure I will be alright tomorrow :)

I think you may find this the "the norm" people dont turn up.  I have worked for a few companies before Istarted my own, and when I was interviewing for postions... alot of them did not turn up... I also advertise.. and have the same issue... I have also paid more than the  £7.30 rate and still no one turns up.

Its life.... the only way out if you cannot cover the job unfortunately is agency staff. not great I know

You have to remember the sort of people looking for a little cleaning job are not out looking for a career, they are after a bit of extra pin money, .....there's no decline, i had people 20 odd years ago not turning up, its just one of those things I'm afraid.

Feeling better about it today, although I still don't get some peoples mentality! ;D
We have been there soooooooo may times, it just was the straw that broke the camels back yesterday. ;D
Would not go the agency way as we can cover the work ourselves, but at the end of the day don't want to permanently. :)

There are no other nearby sites. I appreciate what you are saying, but it would just be adding to this problem not solving it. :)

Have learnt to sus out "the little job" brigade and they don't get an offer of interview let alone anything else.
As I said before people are supposedly crying out for more money, but because of the "world" we live in they don't want to work for it. >:(
So in for another enthralling evening of seeing who makes it today!! ;D ;D ;D
