Title: Wanted: 40' lightweight pole,... by tomorrow!
Post by: Nathanael Jones on June 19, 2008, 06:02:07 pm
I've a big job on this weekend cleaning a ceiling in a factory and dusting down the rafters. All they want is a dry brush down & basic cobweb removal,.. so even though the place is huge I reckon me and my little brother will get it done before Monday morning.

I didn't think I'd got the job, so I hadn't given much thought to a new pole. I just assumed if he wanted me to do it, he'd give me some warning! But the guy just called me and hour ago and gave the go ahead! Its a good payer, so despite the lack of notice I'm going to give it a go.

But,.. with the ceilings 43' high at the apex I'm going to be struggling with my spiderbeam pole, both with the weight and the reach.

I'm going to be using this pole all day, and it'll be a long day, so weight is a major factor.
The other big factor is that I need to get it off the shelf in local stores tomorrow!

My idea so far is a harris pole base with an Argos 11mtr fishing pole somehow connected to the top.

www.argos.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=30001&partNumber=0742636

What do you reckon???

To be blunt wait and do it properly, postpone the job.

11m less the top 3 sections gives you an 8m. The base section -hopefully glass fibre composite, needs to take the Harris, which it wont because the dia of the top Harris section will be too small for the base of the Argos. But you may be able to cobble some sort of adapter. Or think about using the Harris upside down.
Or maybe off internal scaffolding.

i reckon the fishing pole idea will be a bit too flexible.?

Generally carbon fibre modulars are the stiffest/lightest things around.

I wish I could postpone it,... They have an inspection next week, so this is the only time it can be done!

Nathanael just go to a fishing tackle store and buy a fishing pole, if all you are doing is giving it a light dusting down then you wont need anything special.

btw 40ft = 12.2m but if you buy a fishing pole you will lose about 3m off the top (too thin) so you'll need a 15m or longer pole.

best wishes

Cheers alan,... will be trying a few tackle shops tomorrow.

I was thinking the shorter pole combined with the harris would save a bit of cash though,.. what would a 15 mtr pole normally cost?

16m £249 you wont need any of the top 3 sections though, so maybe £15-29 off www.cheshirefishing.co.uk/shop/mappoles.htm
you could use part of a skypole etc as the top section.

It would be ideal if someone near you had a Super-Lite 45ft+ that they could hire out to you for the job. Is there anyone near Nat that has one available for hire?

No one near me has one yet,... I don't suppose you have enough "spares" lying around to make up one and post it over express???  ;) ;) ;D ;D
