Got my van sign written about two weeks ago. Booked first job today as a result of somebody driving behind it. £255 job. Thats paid for the sign writing and a £5 over to get the van cleaned.
Now if I even got that every month I'd be happy.
Mark
PS. what sort of revenue/jobs does your van get you?
-
Steady response over the years, I always say it pays to have your van signwritten.
-
Had mine written from new (2 yrs old) and had 20+ jobs as a direct result. Minimum £50 up to £341 job..............and i got mine signwritten for FREE ;D

Thanks lads.

Hows the recoil doing? How far are you from Enniskillen as I may come down for a visit to see it in action.

Mark have you got a picture?
I've had one direct call in 3 years off the Van, but I always see the Van as indirect marketing. As people see it driving round town the subconciously remember the name and when they are looking in the phone book for a carpet cleaner they remember the name :)

Get phone calls fairly regularly, especially if the van is caught up in traffic or parked on a high street etc.

hi there,
the interesting thing is, whether you are looking for advertsing, or sompany presence.
our vehicles are sign written, but at the moment not in the most informative way. we are intending to add to that in the near future, but to be honest we wouldnt know what to do with the extra work anyway.
what does very good is when you two, three of even more vehicles on one site doing a job, it just delivers a good punch. And looks pretty good aswell. You will then be amazed how much extra work you get from that,
there are far too many vehicles being driven round either unmarked, or dirty. We ensure that our vehicles are regularly cleaned, and one person is responsible for making sure that there is enough dtock on the vehicles to do the jobs required.

Recoil doing very well Mark, but Enniskillen is well off the beaten track in relation to where I am.
-
Martin,
there are far too many vehicles being driven round either unmarked, or dirty.
Mine is not driven around dirty, but I have not had a sign-written van for about 15 years.
I found that a lot of people would copy down the number and were offended when I politely explained why I could not take on new customers other than referrals.
Several actually said that if I did not want the business, why advertise the number? I saw the logic in that and ceased marking the vans. It's a shame really, because a well designed piece of sign-writing can make the van look so much smarter :(

hi there,
John
thats a fair point, and its a situation that hopefully we wont get into.
at the moment we are a size where we just put on extra staff to cover the increasing work load, as required.
obviously as our business increases then flexibility either increases or decreases. we will wiat and see on that one

Wife got home and mentioned that she saw (no names) have you seen the state of his van, this dose not refer to signage or how cleaning it was!
Len

Len I think she meant the ice cream van ;D

I had someone follow me 9 miles from Newcastle to Sunderland because of the advertising on my van why they did not just copy no down ::) It was in the days my van advertised the Host system.,

Mike
I've got a picture but how do I post it?

Here it is. Its the same all the way around with only the logo on the bonnet.
To date Ive booked £500 of work directly from the van (two jobs). Also had a further two quotes as well. Previous customers have commented on how well it looks and how much money I must be making (dont get that one!)
Should have done it 3 1/2 years ago.

Mark,
Van looks very smart and i love the tag line ' Cleaner carpets guaranteed or your money back'.
You cannot loose with that line as any complaints would be quashed as soon as you empty the waste tank. Soil in water is not in carpet and therefore carpet IS cleaner. Very cleverly worded as opposed to '100% satisfaction' which is open to abuse >:(

Got a phone call today from a lady who'd seen my sign written vans parked up.
"I'm Mrs XXX from the XXX Arms Hotel, calling to let you know that I have seen two of your vans parked in my car park today, this carpark is for residents use only" Followed by words to the content of "if you're vans are parked there again we will get them clamped!!"
Sign writing isn't always ideal!!

hi there,
ian,
but ask yourself the question, "why were they in the car park"
if they had finished their work then fine, if not then questions to be asked.
i get reports from all over our locality from friends, i dont need to put gps trackers in the vehicles.
on a friday afternoon when thy are parked in the car park of the local, its quite a good sight, employee relations buy them a pint every now and then at the end of a busy week, PR goes miles.

The were doing a full post build clean on the other side of the road, but all the other parking areas were full of builders trucks, contractors, sparkies, plumbers vans etc, etc.
The car park was empty bar our vehicles. so we were hardly preventing her getting any trade
-
Mark,
Very nice, wish I had as big a van. What would just finish it off would be a nice set of wheel trims.
Dave.
-
definately looks the business Mark, might try it soon myself

Not as much as you may think.
I got it Nov 03. Its a 2001 model 350 LWB MHR Cost £8000 + VAT with full history, mint condition and 65000 miles. I only do about 10000 miles per year so the miles didnt matter to me.
Theres loads of them out there.

To be hoped that the carpets are cleaner!!

How would you feel if a trademan working over the road to your home parked his van on your drive? A little peeved I would guess >:( Perhaps your employees should have asked permission first, especially as parking on the road would have caused a safety hazard.
Safe and happy parking :)
