Title: Is fuel price affecting van mounted systems?
Post by: s.hughes on June 15, 2008, 09:15:03 am
Is the fuel increase having a real affect on you van mounted guys? The reason for my question is that if you full of water then it weighs a lot and uses a lot of fuel. With this being the case, is it still viable staying wfp even though the fuel pricing is going up and will continue to go up.
By the way I am wfp trolley and dont use it a lot but notice the amount of fuel I use when my car is full of containers.

Used to get 590 miles per tank, now I only get about 520. Sucks, but what can you do.

This will be a factor when I buy my next vech...I have installed a water meter to the outlet side of my pump and now watch my day/weekly usage but I think we are all affected by the price hikes.

But at the moment I try to maximise my daily workload so that my vech/time usage is used as sensibly as possible.

Oh and I make my own biodiesel too that helps  ;D

Here in the South of The Netherlands (near Eindhoven) it's about £1.10 per litre (1.38 euro p/l) and rising daily it would appear. Petrol is about 20 euro cents per litre more than diesel....these prices are for the budget fuel stations where there are no staff/shop/toilets etc...just pumps/chip&pin machines..so this is the cheapest...

I 'top' up with homemade biodiesel as and when...lets face it I still have to put diesel reciepts into the tax man...

Cheers
Dave.

it's 130.9 here now, spending about £12 a day.

really though, compared to what you can earn in a day it's not really a massive issue imo.

glad i'm not working for someone else on min wage or it would be

And to add to that, has anyone got a link to a site for the biodiesel?

I don't think it's just the people with van mounts that are affected. Any W/C that has to carry water is in the same boat. Biodiesel here in the uk is subject to fuel duty just like normal diesel. If you buy it ready to go then it costs more than usual stuff and if you make some yourself you'll find the savings so small that it isn't worth the effort. LPG conversions - maybe thats the answer.

Production costs work out at about 15p per litre, and if you can get waste oil for free, you’re looking at extremely cheap motoring. Plus, unless you make more than 2,500 litres a year you no longer need to pay tax (up to July last year motorists had to pay duty of about 27p per litre on homemade biodiesel). Some companies sell ready-made biodiesel. You can find a list at www.biodieselfillingstations.co.uk.

WCE I would strongly disagree that making your own biodiesel has little savings...I get waste cooking oil...free....then proess it...and let me say the savings are enormous...even when making 1 litre never mind when I make 200 litres...

I don't ever fill the van up now, as if you do it's extra weight to pull around. It definately helps IMO

Filling up the car is more weight but I hate going to fill up so one fill every 2 weeks is the way I've always done it.
