Did a first aid course on tuesday , obviously just basics in a day , but its just the basics that can save a life until the pros take over.
Would recommend it to anyone, especially after reading of Richies accident.

Have done St John Ambulance Lifesaver Plus first aid course plus Babies & Children module ......... daughter had accident years ago and i was at a loss .......... never wanted to feel that helpless again, around my family or anywhere else.

Chris , thats exactly it , hate to think I would be helpless if a situation arose.Hopefully I would remember what I learn't.

Used twice in public, once with fallen old lady and again with young kid fell off bike. ............. felt like a hero :o ::)
It comes flooding back ............. old lady hurt arm and i ran into dry cleaners and got large safety pin to fix sleeve of cardigan to body, like a sling , bought pack of tissues in newsagent and stopped bleeding on forehead ............ paramedics were impressed ;D

I used to do 4 day courses for work every 3yrs - which was a pain. Used to have to deal with heart attacks, epilepsy, chopped finger, burns, you name it - happy days ::)
The only time I had to use it personaly was when an old lady fell over opposite my house.

Any training I have had would have been through the Army or Police.
Luckily I can't remember ever needing to really use it other than when a neighbour had his mouth cut open by their dog.
Reassurance and getting the lad to calm down by talking to him in a controlled manner was the answer before going off to hospital for stitches.

You hit the nail on the head there ......... confidence to take charge......... half the battle ;)
My brief TA spell in RMP, did teach first aid but spent too much time avoiding injury to worry what went on around :o
