hi could any one tell me how do i go about start cleaning office
builds cleaning
on things i need to get in

cold calling, advertising. Not local papers, yell.com or thompson directories, leaflet drops

For standard office cleaning
Insurance, Public and employers.
Contract - that covers you, amount payable each month/yearly
COSSH SHEETS on site always.
some companies aks for alot of staff like
Risk assesments
site specific risk assesments
Method statements
work safe systems
this is mainly for working alonng side another contractor like builders cleans

The legal requirements are as follows:
Public Liability Insurance
Employers Liability Insurance (if you actually employ people)
Cossh
Risk Assessments (site specific)
The above are a minimumn.
You should also consider the following:
Treatment Risk Insurance
Key Loss Insurance
Health & Safety Training
Some sort of recognised cleaning training (NVQ's)
Method Statements (not presently required by law, but hopefully one day soon!)
A good accountant.
A decent accounting package.
Basic business training available from your local business link.
This is just for starters!
Just a point of information Pristine Clean, Risk Assessments are required BY LAW, regardless of the contractor being a company or self employed, for all work, that includes office cleaning builders cleans etc etc.

Rob, is public liability insurance a legal requirement or is it maybe wise to have it :)

Hi Graham, i've always had it and wouldn't even consider telling anyone not to bother with it, but i'm pretty sure if your a sole trader you don't have to by law, but i could be wrong

Risk assesment is required by law, agreed. I did not explain it as clear as I should have done. I have only found that contractors ask for the risk assesment.
I have alot of contracts and have not found any office contracts have asked for a risk assesment from my company. Only on builders cleans or communial cleaning. That is not to say I wont be asked to provide one.
I do make a risk assesment and keep a copy on all sites just in case.

this will not prove you can clean, and even being a coperate member of BICS in my opinion is missleading as you can just pay around £500 and be a corperate member, you wont recieve any BICS Training.. I have had the BICS training and you can pass any NVQ in the cleaning industry with a blind fold.
Most cleaning conmpanies take on staff & have a 10 minute intoduction on the site where they are cleaning and are showed how to mix chemical if you are lucky and show you where the cleaning cupboard is and the access code.
Also alot of staff most people take on have either had no cleaning experience, but when they turn up they say they have... Also not every cleaner has had a CRB check even when required! And most companies take on the first cleaner they interview as cleaners are hard to find nowadays. Reliable ones, wit good standards.

why do we want this BY LAW Soon?
There is enough paperwork, more and more safety regs than ever. A £50 job turns out to cost £700 just because of all this legislation... Pointless.. Give you an example.
Safety signs out. Cleaning in progress. At all extrances/exits and where required. even taped off area. area is wet as you are mopping, person ignores signs and tape. slips - sues company for money. I know this happened to one company and they follwed the book more than required. Insurance is still paying out.
should be simple signs out, taped off , you fell slipped ignored the sign(s)... ohdear, tough. lose your house. ignorant person. and ya job. ;D
All this legislation is for very large companies to make it hard for smaller companies. Not that it effects my company. But we were small once and found it difficult.
Just my opinion though ;D

ok how do u do a risk assesment
and as any one got a copy off office contracts so i know wot to put in
i have never done office cleaning this will be my first i have only done domestic cleaning
