Title: Theft
Post by: tamara on June 11, 2008, 07:23:28 pm
Hi Guys and Gals,

I wonder if you'd spare me a moment for some of your opinions.

I have a wonderful cleaner, very honest (tell's me if clients gives her tips, tells me if client offers more work on the side) sweet, thoughtful, blushes easily (!) just a real gem, cleans fabulously etc...

Client has just informed me that she left over £1000 in office desk drawer and over £1000 has disappeared, not all but vast majority.

First impressions of client is nice but her story doesn't sit too well for me, its a simple story but for some reason i guess i don't believe her. I am trying to be objective and hoping that i am not thinking this because i don't want it to be true or because i really like  the cleaner, i honestly believe that the client does not make exact sense.

First question is what to bloomin do?

Second question is what to bloomin do?

Never had any theft accusations, love all my cleaners, oh god, i just feel sick  :(

its a domestic property, they uphold that only they (husband n wife) were at home with cleaner, they say money was in office desk bound with money clip, apparently it went missing on Friday last week (when cleaner visits) but she only went to take to bank today, she didn't even notice that over a grand was missing until she gave to cashier. (how is that possible?) Surely we can feel by weight and thickness if over a grand of cash is missing?

If you honestly believe the cleaner then stand by her - if the client believes the cleaner nicked the money then they would have been onto the old bill as quick as a flash. I'd speak to the cleaner then contact the bill and let them sort it

Agree with BDCS,

Its impossible to know what happened to the money, if there even was any, previous good behaviour is no guarante but neither is any customers apearences of honesty or decency, trust no one ,but be supportive to your staff member!

Is the customer expecting you to do anything about it? what? pick up the tab?

If they think they have been stolen from then they should contact the police. end of.

my gut feeling is that to not realise the money has gone untill 4 days later in the bank effectively leaving a 4 day window of opportunity for the money to be lost/stolen and then to claim to know exactly who took it and when, is at best spurious, but most likely, bollox!

This was the point I was going to make.

On one hand the client is telling you the money went missing on Friday (Cleaning Day) then on the other hand she's saying she didn't notice it missing until Wednesday!

Thats one major hole in her story - and my experience where theres a hole theres a lie!
