I went to local builders yard today for some ready mix motar because I had just relaid some paving and the guy said lots of people just use kiln dried sand because it does a simalar job (as in dries hard like motar mix) I don't know if it is true or not. I thought it stayed the same consistancy it was when you layed it.

Sounds like the bloke is best suited to the counter and not laying patios as he has little idea !
-
Thanks mate, I thought he was wrong, I bought the motar mix anyway. I go there as it is the cheapest in town for the sand.
-
You can buy kiln sand which does dry hard comes in plastic tub goes off with air also can buy magic sand additive to add to the sand works out lot cheaper ,Putting some down next weekend for custy after cleaning there patio
-
Thanks for your reply Rob, the guy at the builders yard was saying just standard kiln dried sand would work
-
Hes a twit then!
-
I said that but I did'nt use such strong language
-
Have you used keybond rob which you put on with watering can,i`m going to try it on a block patio surrounded by woods which i cleaned today and has constant weed problem.dan
-
dandandan,
make sure you tell them that they need to maintain it with a general weedkiller (sodium chlorate, path clear) every couple of months and it will stop anything from coming through.
I always tell people this and then anything that does come through is down to them ;)
-
Thanks steve,i tell them regular brusshing and treat it 3 time a year when i leave,
-
Clinton, the only thing you will have real problem with s the honda 390 if your unlucky,it has a warranty off honda, mine has been great and i just e-mailed hal at merrill constantly for advice,he`s got plenty of patience mate, even i couldn`t break him,ha ha

Dandan i havent used keybond whats is it?
rob
-
marshalls! joint stabiliser! ;D
-
marshalls keybond,i used it for the first time today, you mix it 6 to 1 with water and put on block with can,it makes your sand joints go rock hard,i poop myself at first as it goes down like emulsion paint but it had dried in in about an hour and the joints were solid,i was told it will keep weeds and ants away longer,i was impressed, lots of people are offering it instead of sealing to save future headaches,it cost £33 for 5 litres( £6.50 a litre) and i charged £50 extra on job as i only used 3 litres (£19.50 cost),it does you a favour so i think its worth being cheap so custy has it
-
you mix it up and poor all over the drive using a watering can and rose, its very easy to use (imo) compared to the other alternatives. It goes on looking like milk but dries clear (I felt the same dandandan on my first one!).
-
i did a corner out of site and left it for half an hour just to be belt and braces,ha ha,i couldn`t believe it was gonna dry in,the difference to the joints was great, soild, gonna try some in my tea,who needs viagra,ha ha
