The tops of frames is an absolute no-no for me. Unless the customer has specially requested a frame clean, I never touch the top of the frame.  I will sometimes clean the top of the opener.  I've always found you get too much spotting or even run downs when you start going too high up on the frame.

If the frames are filthy i do them, i just do plenty of rinsing and check them if needs be, the finish always look pretty good.

Yes you can.
When it is a solid frame with no vent built into the opening part of the window.
If the vent is built into the fixed part of the window frame then with care that area can be cleaned too,
Why?
Because there tends to be a channel that runs water around the outside of the frame.

ive been doing above the frames now most of the time for 6 weeks and my results havnt been too clever, at the end of the day i tilted my brush up a bit and just got the brush right into the top of the glass and the window came up perfect do you think i should keep doing it this way..

When we changed over to wfp I made sure my customers knew that the windows will need to be cleaned 2/3 times before they came up 100%, Just to make sure I never lost any customers I did say" If your not happy with them after 3 cleans I would do them for free untill they came good...."

We started by cleaning all the frame from top to bottom with plenty of water, if you have just started it might be a bit slow to start but once you have a really good clean frame the jobs will only get quicker..

I always do the frames!!! I think it looks awful when the glass is clean and pvc frames are a dirty grey! It only takes a bit of elbow grease to get them clean and once you have achieved this every clean is a doddle afterwards.
Im really surprised that some of you guys skip the frames :o
If a job is worth doing, do it properly!

Agree with you, I'm the same except for vented window frames :)

Yes i agree with this. The time spent getting them good in the 1st place will more than be made up with future cleans.
Doing the frames also in my opinion, makes the finish almost rain proof. Although this can be a bad thing as last night i called a customer to clean their windows and was told that they look clean since we have had rain.
I would always do the frames and would also go back and check if a 1st clean once dry, to get paid.

I'm absolutely surprised that you don't clean the top frames Alex, I personally don't think it's the way to go, even when your really careful, you can splash it, and still get a run, but if you spend one clean properly on the frames, then they do come up very nicely, only been doing wfp for 2 weeks, so yes I know I'm still wet behind the ears, but it works very well for me, no problems!

And once you clean em well, it's just a matter of keeping them clean. Looks brilliant to see all of the frame sparkling.

im with you alex,  been wfp over 5 years now, and  these days i only clean the top frame on the first clean.i have learnt through trial and error  that this is the way that works best for me.i have found cleaning the top frame gave me much less reliable results.

their is no right or wrong way to use wfp set in stone, the right way is the way that works for you and your customers.

If you want to do your frames, do them in the sunshine.
Go round and give the frames a good wash, go back to the start and do the windows only. This gives time for the frames to stop running.

(4 weeks work a month, 3 days sunshine a year. forget what I just said) ;D

Apart from where there are vents, I have always done frame tops on first cleans.  After a while, I started only doing them a couple of times a year.  I have switched to doing them every time now though.  Sometimes if I'm in a hurry to get finished I leave them alone as I don't think missing them once in a while hurts.

I know it's only one job but I picked up a job a few weeks ago partly because the previous W/C (WFPer) was leaving run marks.  When she showed them to me, it looked like it was because he had been washing the vents too.  You say you can go over those bits again but the trouble is that vents can run for quite a while after you have left.  Of course another issue is that by washing some types of vents, you can also squirt water into the house.
