Title: working during inclement weather
Post by: Jon-scwindows on June 07, 2008, 12:06:05 am
Grey skies and rain seem to mess with plans allot, and even though i dont mind working in the rain with full water proof gear, and it makes no difference to the clean, it still seems off putting, and i end up leaving it for that day. I was wondering how many of you do, whether you have to, or you just dont do it. I know its only a bit of water, though its the customers that arent in their right minds in this respect most of the time, even though it would be better having the windows dry off after rain, than leaving them wet on a dry day. What about trad guys, does it mess up the job...

I won't do my top work in the rain.  I only do stuff I could live with losing.

Also, you tend to know who minds and who doesn't.

He asks because WFP is usable in the wet whereas, trad in the wet is a nightmare.

Yeah, but do you guys not find that no matter how many times you tell people some just don't like you doing it in the rain?  I sure do.

I have lost customers that way.  Some people just see cleaning windows in the rain as a p take.  Period.  That is my experience  ???

I just don't find wfp as quick as people make out.  When you combine it with the extra costs involved, I think it equals overrated.  At least on my round as a whole.  Sure some jobs its great, I'm talking as a whole here.

I do pride myself on being very quick trad though.  Saying all that, I still go wfp mainly as I'm buggered if I'm changing back again  ;)  I'd look a bit of a fool...

I find the same, it is the same as wfp they dont like change I have lost a few to it, but to be honest when we was trad sat looking out the window and not earning did my head in, and with wfp there is no reason not to we soak the windows anyway and it really makes no difference raining or not. I offer a guarantee on any windows we clean so they have no reason to moan. (some will always moan either way) so you cant really win, but earn in the rain you can  ;D

Fair play to you but I think your opinion is wrong, it is just cleaning windows, what happens if it rains after you have cleaned, or a few hours later ? few hours before is it worth you doing them, maybe stay at home till the sun shines for days to look professional  ::)

If you dont like getting wet thats fair enough  :P

;D I went out and got soaked on friday.

Not window cleaning, But Gutter/fascia cleaning!

If I had any conservatories I would have done them as well!

The rain won't kill you ;D ;D ;D

But customers imo might try to if you try to clean their windows in the rain... they think they are getting cheated somehow! ;)  >:( :o

i've had it bouncing up off the pavement its been raining so hard. as for looking desperate i'm geting the job done and i have proved on more than one occasion that wfp works in the rain (and wind). if the customer doesn't like it then they are usually looking for a new window cleaner very quickly...

i wouldn't be out there getting wet if it didn't work! as long as my feet are dry i'll keep working (used to be timberlands, now have changed to dewalts)

i stop for thunder and lightening!

We have worked the rainy days for the last year or so, all new customers are told this before we take them on.

Besides when it rains only 1 side of a house normally gets pelleted with rain.

I'm sure you can, but it's never the gauranteed job you do when it's dry.
They should come up well, but they might not.
But customers don't see it that way.

You can hardly blame them. :-\

I do clean in the rain but make execptions for thunder, lightening and windy rain days....on my 'you're windows have been cleaned today' cards it states that in the event they are unhappy with the work they should call me within 24 hours and I will return to handle any issues.

If we were not to work in rain, soon to be rain or it rained earlier then I seriously doubt I could earn a living...

Dave.
